My fuel pump( I think) started giving trouble on my 13,000 mile 09 800.
I ordered an aftermarket one and installed it yesterday. I have not had a chance to ride the bike enough to be sure that the new pump fixed the problem but am hoping it did.

Now my question. When I removed the old pump ,it had no strainer on the intake side. The new pump had a couple of different strainer options but since the old one had no strainer I installed the new one sans strainer.
The Bike Bandit parts fish shows a strainer on the original pump so I am going to back in and install one.:evil

Did your pump have a strainer on it?

Yes but it was sitting at the bottom of the fuel tank

And it's pretty important to have, prevents small particles from getting sucked up and jamming/melting between the walls and impeller blade, even if it doesn't seize up immediately, over time, as heat builds up, it can seize and un-seize and drive you crazy. This, I know....

Edit to the post above...... No bashing of my fellow rider in arms. Jake and I rode together a few years back in NM, where he ripped on his his versys. Just had to pick on him a bit......:D:D

Dude, you are the smartest guy I've ever ridden with, at least as far as CF is concerned!!

Here's a pic of my old pump strainer and a new strainer, both are from the auto store, AirTex FS175, $20 (that's expensive to me!)

Hey AustinJake Is that a CAN-AM 10 micron filter in lieu of the stock fuel filter post pump?
I am running that on my Husaberg outside the tank. They are cheap and filter down to 10 micron.

Duralast 3330, same as Wix 33095 and Fram G3606, 5/16" nipples on both ends, don't know the micron rating, the filter is cheap at $5.

That is a good simple fuel filter fix since the stocker is not available for sale.
