Pics/explanation,nothing earth shattering. Hopefully it will add a little ''chug'' to offset the lighter fly wheel. I am not trying to reinvent the wheel. Keep the torque, but let it rev a little quicker like the newer 300's.

I'll bring more stickers to TP for him. :deal

FYI, 4 days of riding on the 300 with the HC head now. I absolutely love the power! I short shift that thing all day long. I torque around most of the ST in 2nd and 3rd gear. Pulling onto a logging road : "brup..brup..brup..brup..brup..braaaaaaaaaaa....." :D

Every couple years I treat the bike to a facelift, it helps keep the showroom envy in check :D

That's exactly how I ride it with the SX head, I also dropped the rear a tooth to 13/49 pulls it nicely with the extra torque. Lower Rs = less flywheel effect = better st manners :clap

I have an 11 300 XCW with the SXS head too.

Here are some tips (if you have not done them) -

    Moto Tassini V4 reeds
Leave the power wire plugged in (the switch is useless)
FMF Gnarly pipe with the Q4 silencer (spark arrestor equipped)
JD Jet Kit (or the kit / settings of your choice)
    Red spring installed
Back out the Spring Guide until it's flush with the case

I wish FMF made the Snap for the 11 XC-W.

    Have fun!

Don't all of the newer bikes come stock with V4 reeds? My '06 had the stock reed supersceded with the V4. The '11 appears to already have the V4.

My '06 really benefited from the Gnarly pipe. With stock pipe & head, the '11 had better torque than the '06 with Gnarly. With SX head, I'm quite happy with the stock pipe.

Re: jetting, I'm content with the KTM jetting chart. The PO on my bike went way leaner and the bike ran horribly. Stock jetting is crisp and very forgiving of altitude changes.

Back of the owners manual.....but go to the jetting forum on KTMTalk. lots of good jetting info there. Can be a bit much, but if you read through it, you will find it all.

You can find all of the owners manuals online with jetting tables. If your engine is reasonably close to stock they work great.

    2011 XC-W 300 came with the V3.
    2012 and 13 come with the V4.

You can't compare an 06 bike with an 11 bike even if they are both orange.
You need to check out KTM Talk or ask your local expert Jeff Slavens if the Gnarly will help your low and mid range.

To each his own on jetting.

Have you played with the power wire?
    The spring?
    The adjuster?
There's a lot of power in the 300 you can adjust to suit your riding style.

Ahhh.... Just different versions of the V-force? I misunderstood.

I put on the power wire switch. You are right, I see little difference with the SX head.

My point on the Gnarly pipe is that I already have a ton of low and mid range power. I don't see the need to dump a bunch of $$ on a new pipe + pipe protector. Perhaps adjusting the power valve for a higher engagement point drives the need for better low end?

I've played a little with the spring and I'm pretty happy with the yellow one at a medium setting.

Your point on riding style is spot one. Specific settings that work well for one person may be horrible for someone else.

I've got a '09 and running the Gnarly pipe, stealth muffler, JD jetting, stock head, V4 reeds and (I think) 2 teeth more on the sprocket.
My bike has a ton of low end and I don't dink with the jetting at all from 5,000ft to high mountains of CO. I know I could maybe get it a bit cleaner running if I did, but why? It honestly runs great just about anywhere in any conditions. :nod

I just need to ride it more lately. :cry

I've done all those mods except the V4, waiting on my V3 reeds to need replacement first, they're close. Switch is a waste of time, I never use the low setting unless I bump it. I prefer the stock pipe better than the knarly also, we ride enough desert that I don't want to loose the overrev. Stock pipe pulls a bit longer and I shift less out there. With the head I'm not lacking for any lowend, I actually like the way the gearing change tames it a little on the bottom. As for the springs, I have 2 settings, Green/2 turns in for extremly knarly 5moh kinda stuff. Red/flush for more open riding like the dez where I want to be on the pipe more.

    My bike rawks!!!! :rofl

Been doing a lot of DS riding lately, so the 525 has been getting all of the love. My 300 is plated, but that's really just for riding short pavement shots and fire roads to connect trails. I finally had the chance to take the 300 out for a spin today in the mountains. Within the first 5 minutes on the bike, I remember why I like riding 2 strokes so much, and specifically the 300. It's such a blast to ride. :clap
