Hello ADVRiders! I'm conducting a little poll to see what the most hardcore adventure riders will be wearing in the dead of winter this season. So please oblige me and let me know what kind of heated liners you love, hate, adore or detest and why. Thank you! Joanne aka GearChic
I have a Gerbings jacket. It's awesome. My only complaint is that the pigtails on the sleeves where the gloves plug in are about two inches too short. Keeps me warm at just about any temperature.
I've been using a Gerbings vest for a while and its great. I just picked up a jacket liner and T5 gloves because my Rev'it tempests don't cut it when its 28* like it was a few mornings ago, even with heated grips. Good stuff all told.
I've got all the latest Gerbing stuff. But my dual controller just quit on me. Not quite a year old. So I will send it in for repair/replacement. The new gloves are great. I have ridden in weather down to just below zero so far. No problems.
i have a tourmaster jacket and heated leather 4xl gloves....very happy. tourmaster makes the only 4xl heated gloves.
Gerbing liner and T5 Gerbing gloves with single controller! Liner where the wires are all connected can feel a bit bulky but you get used to it and the T5 gloves run very very large...buy much smaller then you would usually buy. Heard the EXO2 stuff is really comfy and runs quite a bit more snug in the fit.
Powerlet heated jacket liner. Gets really hot, so much so that I've never had it turned up to more than 1/3 strength. Fits snug.
I have had the older style Gerbing, never used it, had it just in case, I was afraid I would get spoiled. I have always worn Reima and Revit. Bought the newer Micro Wire Gerbing left Butte, Montana it was 25 deg f, only had on the Revit, I was uncomfortably cold and getting colder got to west side of town pulled into the Flying J and put on the gerbing for the first time, wow what a difference with the collar keeping out the draft and the jacket warming my core I felt great, never waiting again to get cold. Of course as soon as I got to Dubois had to take it off was in the 70s. bmwnewbie
I've been running a Gerbings jacket liner and gloves for 6-7 years. Great stuff and they've got a REAL lifetime heating element warranty. Beginning of this season, my left glove stopped working. Sent them in on Monday for repair, and rec'd a new set of G3s by Friday. To be honest, I'd have gone out and purchased a new set of set of Gerbings gloves, as I've already been impressed by the 6-7 years of hard use. Guess they've figured that they probably sell more gloves by keeping existing customers very happy.
Tourmaster Synergy. Even though I got the newer style controller it still crapped out on me. They sent me a new one but I decided to get a Powerlet dual controller (actually made by Warm-n-Safe) because my heated insoles get too so I wanted to control them separately and I don't have to worry about the Tourmaster controller crapping out on me. Aside from the controller issue I'm very happy with it as it will put out more heat than I need and even makes a great warming liner when not powered up. I also have a BMW heated vest that works well. Owning a heated jacket liner I did't really need it but it was only $55 on the local Craig's List and I couldn't resist.
Originally had widder heated gloves and vest. gloves bulky and didn't keep fingertips warm. Also had two pairs burn out wiring against my hand that smarts. Vest is good but jacket liner is so much warmer. Also had a tourmaster synergy jacket and controller crapped out on me twice. That is not a good thing on a long trip in low temps. New controllers were also pricey. I commute at 13-30 degrees a lot of early mornings. Bought a new gerbings heated jacket liner and heated glove liners. The glove liners are only things that have kept my finger tips warm in under 30 degrees. the jacket liner works well except no warmth under arms and that gets cold on high speed stretches. needs wind jacket liner over it doesn't work as a stand alone jacket liner more like a toasty warm sweater. deb
I agree about the arm pits on the Gerbing liner...now that I think about it...our T5 gloves though keep the hand and fingers nice and warm....
Just got the W/S gen 3 jacket a few weeks ago. Been down to the upper 20`s around here since I got it and it works great under my 1 pc suit without its liner. Tried it today with the liner in the suit, temps mid 40`s and didn`t need the heat. I like the suit better without the liner, less bulky but I could ride a few hours in the teens with the jacket liner suit combo, just have to protect my face with a mask under the helmet. I kind of regret not going with the gen 4 micro wire stuff as it wouldn`t have cost that much more, looks a lot nicer, and can be worn as an only jacket with reflective striping for hi vis at night.
BMW carbon fiber vest. Coupled with a Santiago jacket (w/liner) and good pants, I can ride down to freezing temperatures.
Gerbings with the new microwire/mesh stuff. Amazing. Almost instant warmth. I wore it some this weekend. I need to pull out my Gerbings G3 gloves from wherever I safely stowed them in the spring. Chris
