You are truly the male of the species. The siege will begin shortly and you have such a small army. I wish you well.

you must be able to justify the price.
Your KTM seat is "uncomfortable" because you don't ride enough. The more you ride the better the seat

... and it needed to be said. It truly has become an aphorism that the GS is the better road bike. We need to hear WHY in terms rooted in solid logic or Woody is abolutely right. It's BS. :thumb

Ive been riding a 990 for 3 months now and absolutely LOVE the bike. It's the most comfortable bike I've ever ridden (but then again my previous bike was a WR450... )

Been on a 2500km trip recently and had no back-pain, dead-hand, stiff-knee, sore-ass or any other comfort issues... and this bike kicked butt in long winding mountain passes, short sharp bends, fine gravel, rough gravel, thick sand (although I must add that I'm fitting a steering damper now).

Never been on a GS unfortunately (or fortunately :evil ), so I can't compare them... but I'm also tired of hearing the Beamer is a "better" road bike without any watertight reasons being given, and the people who make these claims probably have never been on a 990/950 either :lol3

Anyway, can't wait for my next long trip, and I hope to see lots of other bikes on the road... but I'll always wave to fellow Katoomers :D

I gotta agree with Woody... not that I have ridden any of the BMW's, but I sure am curious (did consider purchasing one though... and I realized the 950 was much much better :D )

    But the question remains...
    And I am listening... :ear

    D

p.s. - this makes me think of that thread with (can't recall who it was) took his 950 to Laguna and was doing laps with the Scorpions... towards the end of the video I think he passed one of the sport bikes! but then again, that is another type of riding that the GS would not be able to do.

Woody - I'm on your side, your points are well presented and I've often wondered the same thing. It's just that many of the posts at GSpot have more to do with apologetics than with logic. I mean you would think that they are protecting their religion for gods sake.

The logic is quite simple: the BMW is a better bike on the pavement * because it clearly isn't better on the dirt yet it costs more.

As proof, many BMWs are being purchased and buyers wouldn't throw their hard earned money away**: those gizmos - tele/para-levers, sausage brakes, power-sapping unsprung drive shafts - are worth the extra bucks and those shin bashers are thrown in with the deal (not, as in most things BMW, as optional extras).

    * It’s just not good at being narrow, taking the gap, attracting special looks, or putting that huge grin on your face.

** Ok, I lied. The fat fooks who buy the BMWs are old and desperately looking for an equally old club to join, one that won’t ever scare them with too much adrenalin. They’ve worked most of their lives and don’t really know what to do with their money or how to cope with their mid life crises so the BMW market droids kindly helped them on their pathetic, graying, way.

OK, OK, an emotional outburst. But, despite all the [silly] reasons I’ve read in these forums, why anyone would choose that BMW over that KTM is one of life’s true mysteries.

Good timing on this thread, my '06 950 ADV should be in and ready to roll by this weekend. After riding the 1150GSA pig, I'm hoping the weight difference alone will make the KTM a better ride both on and off road. I really dug the GSA for longer rides, but from what I'm hearing, I'm not going to miss it... :deal

To the defense of BMW riders, however, there's a thread around here somewhere with folks who have dragged their valve covers gettin' busy on the track.
