I grew up a FIP (outside Chicago), and can't stand the Illinois people up here now. I've heard the term used against Hoosiers, but personally don't have anything against the state. Heck, have relatives in Valpo and Indy...

Thats why the thumb is so nice and quiet.
I will be moving back to Lexington, MI but even that is getting the T-shirt, fudge shops, tourist crap like TC...women shoppers buying nick naks.

We bitch about 'em constantly, mostly wealthy Chicago people with yacht club memberships, but the $$$$ they bring into this little town sure does help so I <s>don't</s> try not to complain too much. I just wish they would leave their self-important attitudes and finely-honed city-driving skills at home when they come up on vacation.

I can deal with the higher number of people, its the exponential increase in the number of :asshat that stinks.

The up-side is you get lots of property taxes from folks that are only there a fraction of the time. I don't know that it makes up for the summer population swell, but it's at least a silver lining. I wouldn't know, people don't typically have summer homes in Indiana!

Half million people in TC last weekend for the Cherry Festival and Blue Angels airshow. What a cluster that was, but I can just see the $ in the merchants eyes...

Just had my first Pasty. Heaven.

When I rode I80 out from Colorado I jetted North at Cedar Rapids and hit the North East Corner of Iowa into Wisconsin. Gorgeous. Beautiful Roads, beautiful Scenery. Headed through Milwaukee then North to Escanaba and around. I80's good for making time.

There's a place in Allegan on M89 east of town and they have another shop in downtown Richland that's called Up North Sandwich & Pasty Co. They only place any where around here that has honest-to-goodness real yooper style pasty's. Better than some I've had in the UP!!

They are SOOOO good. Unbelievably good. We had the beef pasty with a side of gravy to dunk it in. Perfection.

I do ketchup with mustard. I've never had gravy, sounds great too.

Gravy of course! I was told its sacrilegious to put ketchup on a pasty. The Zodiak even makes their own gravy...which was a bonus.

When I was at MTU back in the day, my roommate had an Aunt and Uncle that lived in Lake Linden. She made us pasty's and they took up the whole plate. Man those things were good. A real pasty has rhudabagga in it too.
