Well 2009 is upon us and we have a chance to do another installment of Kim and Mike's Most Excellent Adventure #?. Last year it was Alaska and the Canadian Yukon and in 2007 it was NH, VT, Quebec, Labrador, Newfoundland, Nova Scotia and ME via the Trans Labrador Highway (see the links below).

So where to this year? How's your geography? Does this look familiar?

Well we weren't lying about where we are headed in the title of the thread. We're headed to Iceland in late June/early July. :wings

We're in the process of renting machines and I'll have details on them shortly, but a a nice tidbit is that they are somewhat exotic machines that are NOT available for sale in the US (tasty!). We'll keep you all up to date as this trip firms up. We are psyched!!! More soon...

    You're going to love it.
I lived in Iceland for almost 3 years. It really is beautiful enough to take your breath away.
In the summer the days are very long so you get extra time for exploring, and excellent chances for photos because the sun is always at a very low angle (creates dramatic colors and shadows).

    GB,

We're just so psyched, we can't wait. We thought the planning process might be a bit interesting to all as well.

So what will our mounts be for this Most Excellent Icelandic Adventure? Can't get 'em in the US... What could they be? What could they be?

    I give you Mrs. 2TTW's:

    Yamaha XT660R

    and 2TTW's:

    Honda TransAlp

Neither of us have ridden either of these bikes so we are hoping they are as tasty as reported. You Europeans have had all the fun on these bikes so we're rarin' to try them out. For those of you in the same boat as us, we'll let you know what we think.

Guys, you are renting??? I am off to Iceland May 16 to 21 and found one rental place with BMW and the Yamaha 660. I did not seem to find anyone with the Transalp renting. If you could drop me a line be greatly appreciated.

This I have to see. Looks like you have some fun bikes to ride. How long are you going to be up there? Are you still thinking of doing a tour extension to Europe?

    Skip,

We've got 16 days total, but no Europe this time. The deal is that you can only stay 7 days and have it be a stopover. Otherwise, it's another full fare to Europe and back to the States. So we decided it would be better to get to know Iceland than just do a quick stopover and then run to Europe.

We'd rather fully explore Iceland and later tour all of Europe and the rest of the continent when we have the time. Sooo... it's just Iceland for now, not that that's a bad thing :lol3.

    Hi

I was there last summer. Great place, indeed. Take a look at my ride report if you like. Perhaps you can find some useful hints there:
