You will be told in training on Thursday that you are expressly prohibited from taking pics when there are bikes on the track. They can monitor all the flagging stations, and if you are observed taking pics while there is action on the track, you will be escorted from the facility. When there is a break in the action, you can take pics of you and your crew, etc.
I don't know the difference with the Dorna people an photo journalist's. All I know is that I personally saw a Gopro, a guy was sticking through the fence on one of those stick things get yanked by security. I was in The Alpha station at COTA and several permanent pass types showed up, pointed fingers and they went into the crowd and took the Gopro. Another was mounted to the fence at the top of Turn 1 during the race and I heard they took that one also. I guess I misunderstood the press thing, I thought they had to pay Dorna or the FIA for the right to publish pics from the event. I guess since I work the race the rules are different for us. I know we aren't allowed to take pics during the races or practice. Thought it also said something about professional style equipment. Might have been F-1.
At my gig (Scrutineering), we are told to leave our cell phones in the tech office, because, well, phones are cameras these days and there is a lot of super secret stuff behind the walls in the garages....... --Eric (in Indy)
I'vde taken my pro body & 300mm lens to every race and shoot from the stands & infield and have been bothered once....by a security guard wanting to get info on a new camera. As long as your photos are for personal use, you can click away. Try to sell them, then you have some problems. bring a short lens, a long one and an extender (if you have one) know what you want to shoot, then put the camera down and enjoy the race! see you in the infield around turn 9
I called over today and was told that the GP on Sunday will be carried on FM 107.5 AM 1070. The support races will not be carried. Will be worth taking a pair of Workmates with you if you have the room. Makes following what you can't see a little easier.
Made it to Vandalia, Illinois. Got rained on a couple times and the mount for my auxiliary light broke. Still better than working.
Thought we'd be closer, but the three of us made it to Poplar Bluff, MO. Watching the radar, and looking at routes to get us there in time for registration. Edit: ...and you're right...beats the shit outta working.

From the moment I rolled out of my driveway this morning, I was glad I chose to take the cage. Between frog-strangling rain, 18-wheeled rolling road blocks, and backed up traffic from wrecks and road work, it would have been pretty miserable and hazardous on my bike. Glad to be here, though.
Over hear with the Ducatti dummies. Italian Harley's Glad I rode through the rain and traffic. Got to park the KTM right next to the Ducks and class up the joint a little [/IMG]
