Winter's yet to set in but it's time to start planning for spring just around the corner. :clap

Last years "Kentuckiana Icebreaker" ride was a pretty well attended event and looks like there's enough interest to do it again. Therefore, the ride committee has started planning for March 2013!

So.. looks like the weekend of March 23 - 24 2013, the "Roll to the Hole II" Icebreaker Ride will start in St. Croix, IN (I-64 & IN-37) and end Saturday where we stayed last year, The 'Rock Cabin Camping' cabins & campground in the Mammoth Cave area of central Kentucky. Sunday, we'll roll back north to Indiana on a different route.

I've reserved a single cabin for Saturday. Call Ralph or his wife @ 270-773-4740 to reserve a cabin. Campers can just show and pitch a tent. Here's their website; http://www.rockcabincamping.com/ Very nice place and folks to deal with!

This loosely organized ride is meant to get folks, both new and experienced a way to start the New Year off on a fun, easy, not too long weekend ride through some beautiful country. It's going to be a mostly paved ride ride on 2 lane country roads with some gravel sections (optional) thrown in where we can find them. Kentucky loves to pave everything, so gravel is pretty hard to find.

Here's the link to last years ride; http://advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=751582

I'm sure others will chime in with their thoughs/experiences from last year. Please remember that this is just a group of like minded motorcycle enthusiasts getting together for some fun and fellowship. No fees, no official sign-ups. Just show at the appointed start location and ride. Solo, 2 or 3 or with larger groups, just ride at your own pace, enjoy the moment. Easy-peezy!! Probably the hardest part will be the fickle weather in late March. Could be in the 70's or a cold rain...or worse??

Check back in the coming weeks and months for more info as it develops. GPS tracks won't be posted until mid March, cause the committee ain't even scouted that hard yet... Gawd...who knows what will develop!

    UPDATE 3/12/13 -

The un-official 'official' start time is at 11:00 AM EASTERN. Please note that St. Croix is in the CENTRAL time zone as are the Cabins and Cave City.
You can leave whenever of course.

A very rough medium speed figure would be 2 hours in Indiana and 4.5 in Kentucky. That gets you into the Cabins at 4:30 CT.

The start point is on the southeast side of I-64 at the Marathon mini-mart. Think it's called the '79 One Stop'.
Think you can get breakfast sandwiches/coffee there and top off your tank. I plan on eating a big breakfast and not stopping for lunch.

There's gas at Brandenburg (just off the route), Hardinsburg, the junction of Ky-1168/224, Munfordsville and Cave City. Plan accordingly you guys with little tanks, or ride with some guys you can mooch off.

On the Sunday route north gas is a little more scarce. Make sure you fill up in Cave City. There's gas at about 103 miles from Cave City just south of Rough River lake on Ky-79. There is gas before just that off route (10 miles?) in Caneyville.

I spoke with Ralph at Rock Cabin Camping this morning and told him the group would be headed back this coming March. He said he'd block off the whole place for us. I went and snagged a single.

    Get'em while they're hot!

I'm only going if the campground owner sits around the fire with us and drinks Knob Creek like its water again. I know Kevin is looking forward to breakfast at Pig with chocolate pudding pancakes and shopping in their bazaar.:rofl

Just remember everyone going to the gas station in Kentucky is not a safe thing as birds will line up to deuce on you as you come out of the store.

I rode escort for Mark last week scouting roads...one road took us down a one lane gravel road into the middle of a field, for those of you wanting to avoid paved roads.

    Started off nice.

The farm owners (coming up on the 4-wheeler from the barn on the left) were very nice and said this happens all the time.

So how about asking him if once a year we might just cut across there? I'd pay a buck.

I have been on 2 or 3 cave tours at Mammoth it is something you have to do if you never have been.

There are some other caves on private land in Ky that are really neat also,we visited Great Salt Peter cave years ago before it was closed to public, that thing was huge. There is also another cave that I took Roaddad,Tpar, and Opaulo to on an Stree/Turkey foot dual sport ride a few years ago.
