Now that we have reached the new year, apparently we can now plate dirt bikes.. interested to see who's able to actually pull this off and how the inspection at the dealer went..

I heard that even though the law was signed, that the DOL is not going to allow it because of Federal regulations. Does anyone have some more info?

The dealership still must sgin off tha the bike complies with applible federal standards.
Even though the DoL website does not say which federal standards are applicable, the written guidance set to dealerships lists 49CFR571.

Persuant to 49USC30112, this is a misapplication of 49CFR571.
The NMA lawyer and I are going around in circles with the DoL on this, but the game is not over yet.

I am also working with legislative committee staff that have been assigned to the issue.

According to Thumpertalk, I90 Motorsports is doing a trial run with a Honda 250X. I'll post up any information that shows up on that thread.

There is nothing in state RCW.46.61.705 or DoL guidance relating to applicable federal standards that would preclude converting 2 strokes.

I recieved an email from the DoL this morning saying that they would withdraw the 49CFR571 compliance requirement from its dealership guidance.

When I stopped by on Tuesday, he indicated that they were hoping to get started soon, once the Federal compliance issues were ironed out. He was reluctant to do inspections if he was liable for assuring compliance with the 1700 page Federal manufacturers regs.

Gave Jeff a rough draft of my state RCW requirement complaince spreadsheet a couple of hours ago.
Some parts of the inspection may not be easy, but none of it appears to be impossible.

Question: Now that WA is matching ID, with the advent of the new utility/offroad plate. Is there any word as to if we (ID) can ride our bikes in WA and visa versa? Before, I had heard if we got stoppped across the state line they would write us......so now......maybe not? Though, there are still differences...ID 1 mirror / WA 2 mirrors, ID no directionals / WA requires directionals....and I'm sure there may be other issues too.

    Just wondering.
