The history of this ride as I know it started in 2006 when Rokklym hosted the first GRGR. This was way before my time and I only found out about in 2009 when craig6785 (WTF kinda name is that) took over when Rokklym was to busy to organize it. The route has historically been in the SW Wisconsin, NE Iowa area and obviously stays close to the Mississippi River and on gravel roads. This is some top notch gravel riding with great roads and scenery.

Anyway, Craig and I are working on a new GRGR that will take place on May 17-19. The plan is to have everyone in attendance Friday night so as to leave for the ride early Saturday (8ish maybe?), ride all day on some fecking great roads and then camp over Saturday night to gather around a campfire and regale other inmates with tales of personal bravado and idiocy. All fueled by the alcohol (or not) of your choice.

The last time this ride happened it was cold and rainy all day, and it was still the best time I have ever had on a ride. Hope to see you there. Details to follow as they are decided.

We have decided to camp at Scenic view campgrounds in Waterville IA. I have been in contact with Ken from Scenic View Campground and he informs me that he can't offer a group rate to us. The rates are $15 per tent/per night.

The campground doesn't officially open until the 15th of April so there is no one manning the phones right now, but they do respond to emails and the owners cell phone is listed on their website. I suggest that you wait to contact them for reservations until at least early April. When you do let them know that you are with the ADVriders and they will group us all together.

Seems like a long time ago, but I haven't forgotten Mike! Fun looking at the pictures. Years later I found the excellent roll chart you prepared for us. I think a big chunk of your route has been included in some other rides. Thanks again for the effort. Back then there weren't a lot of opportunities like that. :thumb

Wow, I just checked and see that in the past two years since the GPX of your route has been posted it has been downloaded over 400 times. Nice to see it live on!

You may be waiting for a little while. Craig agreed to plan the route and lead the ride while I take care of the camping and organizing the ride here on ADV. Craig seems to be quite busy at work and hasn't had much time to work anything out yet.

I sent him 4 options for camping and I am waiting to hear if he has a preference before I go any further.

Hey - That's me in the black shirt, blue MX pants - and that's my long-ago-sold DRZ.

That was my first real ride after I destroyed my right shoulder in Dec 2004.

    Unfortunately I am currently dual-sport-less:cry

I didn't forget you for sure. That ride was a blast. I modeled the rides that I have put together in the past after yours short of the roll chart (because I am too lazy :d). The pictures are great also. I hope to be getting something put together very soon.

Hey Mike. I remember you, but was having a hard time putting the faces with the names. There are a few guys I don't remember at all, like the guy to your left.

I believe the guy drinking coffee was a buddy of Skinner's. Fireman? Or something like that. I think he's the one who layed down the 950 right before the bridge? Hopefully, he's still not holding a grudge against me.:D

I am thinking that we will stay at Scenic View Campground in Waterville Iowa. The rates look reasonable and Craig said that one of the earlier GRGRs stayed there and were well treated.

Here is a link if anyone wants to check it out.
