Hi all, Here is where I am going to document all the modifications etc that will be done to my newly purchased WR250R. It may be interesteing to some, it may not be to others, you decide whether you stay and read on. So first off, I bought a bone stock 2010 black WR250R. It only had 3700km on it and was only 6 months old, so still still has a year and a half of its warrant!
Next was fitting a Zumo 550 and a 12v outlet to power it. Making up the mounting bracket and doing the wiring with fuse: Getting into the guts to find some wiring: Mounting of the GPS: Final mounting point for the 12V oulet:
Next was removing the seat strap because it was annoying. Removed the bolts, strap came off, glued the foam back down:
I then started knocking up some pannier racks to suit my old RJays bags. This will only be a temporary thing until I get my giant loop. Back frame: Measuring and mounting of back frame on the right side. I fitted a waterproof 12v outlet under the seat with fuse etc. This is used for a pump, charging phone etc so you don't need the ignition on like the 12v outlet at the front of the bike:
Sanded out the scratches etc from the exhaust cover and painted it flat black. Not sure if I like it or not yet, might go silver: Before: After:

Today I whipped up a quick bash plate. Just out of some old thin aluminium I had left over. I will be making a rallye style bash plate for it with the tool boxes either side when I get some thicker aluminium. Cutting a template out of cardboard: Shape cut: Starting to bend up: The dodgy weld (gasless mig welding...... : Holes drilled and on the bike: I made it high to protect the radiator guard: This side needs to be bent in a little more. I also have to drill the oil drain plug hole and I may also do some holes in the front of it to let some airflow with some mesh behind it.
I thought it just had to be displayed on the left hand side of the bike in a position where it can be seen all the time, which this can??
Bought some bar end mirrors. Took them apart so they could mount to the bars: Fitted up with old mirrors on to see the difference: Both on and cleaned the front of the bike right up:
True, any right thinking person would see that location as being perfectly acceptable, but nevertheless, it is ilegal in Queensland. Proper location, as stated on the back of the rego papers is; "the adhesive side of this label must be affixed in a holder, attached to either the left side or the rear of the motorbike so that all particulars on the label are clearly visible from the outside of the motorbike through a transparent section of the holder. A label inside a cylindrical label holder does not meet visibility requirements" Just saying,.......don`t ask me how I have the rego label attached to my Xchallenge.... It`s interesting, WA has done away with rego stickers altogether, NT has them the size of a postage stamp that go onto the plate, and the new plate reading technology the TV stations were touting earlier in the week that quickly find out whether a vehicle is registered or not......and Qld reckons it`s a smart state. Sorry, back on topic, you`re doing a good job on the Yammie.
