K60 Scout???

The Heidenau K60 Scout I ordered just arrived, I was expecting the tyre with the tread pattern with more central rubber for the road, advertise as a K60 Scout on Heidenau. I got this, can any shed some light, does the tread pattern differ with size of the tyre or have I got an older tread pattern?<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>

What size did you order? I've heard that 150 has new pattern while 140 has still old pattern, both are called K60 Scout.

Is there a date stamp on the sidewall??

If that's a 150 tire then I bet you got an old design tire. I think I read the new rubber compound doesn't wear as good as the old so the center stripe is there for increased durability. That old tire is like the Mefo that everyone over hear has and is ga ga over.

The 140 doesn't have the strip( I believe ) if you went for a smaller tire.

Cheers guys, its a 140. So the older pattern tyre is better wearing? The reason I went for the Scout over a Sahara was the bigger central rubber pattern.

If it's better wearing, I'll keep it, if not bugger. Anyhow the pattern thats advertised on Heidenau web site is the tyre I thought I was getting. :huh

There are some numbers on the side, whether they are date's.... one says 4910?

49th week of 2010, so the tail end of last year.

The 140/80-17 Scout/Enduro is different (as you now know) than the 150/70-17 and different still from the 150/70-18 Scout/Enduro. The 150 17" and 18" are similar in the pattern, the 18" center rib is recessed ~1cm below the lug surface. Not only are the patterns different the compound is too between the 17" and 18"s. At present, the 150/70-17 is not available in the US. Is it available in the UK/Europe?


BTW, Im running the 150/70-18 on my 950. Presently really like it, time will tell how well it wears, has ~500 miles on it.

I know I know, “enduro” tyres are such a compromise but in yesteryear off road tyres were as hard as nails if a little skatey in the wet.

I should have bought shares in a gumtree, this SE’s appetite is busting my wallet, and all I want is a tyre I can get 5 k miles out of, is that too much to ask?

I hear you, there seems to be several different versions within the same designation, it gets confusing. Especially when the cover picture shows the "neu" pattern. The one pictured as the overall general on Heidenau's website is the 150/70-18, however the 130-140/80-18 are not, nor are the 150/70-17 same. In addition to the differences between the rear tires, the 19" front is different than the 21" front. Personally I prefer the 19" pattern, however I have a hot knife that can solve that pretty quickly

Quicky....? The tyre has two red dots on the sidewall, is that the same as one red or yellow dot? Lightest part of the tyre?

MEFO is the same as Heidenau?

Heidenau make the tires for MEFO based upon MEFO's specs. The Heidenau and the MEFO look similar, however they are different in several aspects. I have also been told by the US importer that the MEFO are also not EU "DOT" on-road spec'd, where the Heidenau K60 are.

I read somewhere that the same company owns Mefo and Heidenau but it’s a little vague.
But I do know Heidenau supplies tyres for the UK military including bikes and I know how tight the MOD is, but in contrast take quality very seriously, arse covering.
