Beatnic! Good to see you here bud. Hope you guys had fun camping. Here's my contribution to this thread - 1980 GS450 S: Rear wheel from a Bandit 400, front wheel and forks from a GS500, quarter fairing from an 83 Katana, etc.
Killer photo of a killa' machine busa1300. This bike has had me for years, and irresistible modded like this. Must have. Seriously. I think this old Kat was pulled out of a field and is a prime example of what the Arizona sun does to an unkempt motorcycle. It was delivered to my pal TJ Jackson for a rebuild quote. I'd wager that'll be a pricy deal. Still, the bike retains a rugged charm...beat, but not beaten. It'll live again! 1978 GS1000E at Vegas, Jan 2013. A pristine stocker in the most desirable trim.
Nolan, two of my favorite big GS's! Nice pics. The field worn Kat is great followed by the pristine skunk. -Sean
However Nolan, I respectfully must disagree with your "most desirable trim" comment. My all stock Kat 1000SZ & 1000SN at Moto GP & Motorcycles on Meridian, Indy 2014. On monument Circle. Rolling up to the Pagoda Pagoda Show Sprockets on Speedway GS1000SN in the Shadow of the Pagoda
Can't argue regarding the Cooley Sean! I get it...and I know you get the appeal of the Skunk. It's timeless; on par with the first CB-Four, Z1, etc. I have some nice pics of the Japan-only GS12 that I lifted off the net. I'll share them soon-
Nolan, You know I had to just give you a little sh*t about that. We are in complete agreement about the Skunk. In fact I need one to ride so that I ride my Cooley less. They are awesome bikes to ride and tour on. My 1000SN gets 50MPG in stock trim to boot. Post up the GS12 pics. Great bike!
Some unreal bikes in this thread! I just inherited this little GS from my step-dad a few weeks ago. Pretty amazing condition for an unrestored bike, no? No dents, dings or damage anywhere. Side cover screws not shown in pictures, but I have them, just not attached when pictures were taken tonight.
guys, Ive got a 81 GS650 that looks great but could still use some love. I am going to pull the exhaust off and scrub them down to remove some of the rust thats on the bottom surface. My main questions is how do you remove the slightly pitted oxidation and black marks on the fins and inside the fins on the head?
You can try scrubbing off the top layers of dirt and grime with Simple Green or something. Honestly though man, there are a LOT of little spaces that are easy to miss. Great bike btw. The GS650 E is a pretty desirable model.
would you believe i only have about $300 into it? thats buying the bike and selling some things off of it.
Nice bike. I have a 650E that I love, and at $500 I thought I got a good deal. You might want to think twice about removing the exhaust. Suzuki used bolts instead of the studs that they should have used and you will likely break them. Check out thegsresources.com for lots of GS info and look for broken exhaust bolt threads.
A batch of the (Japan only) GS1200SS. Like a 1200 Bandit, only better. Much better. There's a few in the UK I hear, but I've never seen one. WANT!
Now that I see your pictures, a good scrubbing will do wonders. Fine steel wool, and WD-40, or Simple Green, plastic bristle brushes.
