After a couple of years of very little riding due to struggling with an old back injury while on the 650......I got invited on a 5 day poker run through Qld. The two mates who did it last year ride Harleys.......and they had a few more mates on the same. What a good excuse to buy a bigger more comfortable bike I thought..........so I took the plunge and bought a '10 GS Adventure to tag along and embarrass them in front of there "gang" :poser. When I found out another couple of mates were joining in on a KLR and a DR the scene was set. Much alcohol was consumed, much crap was thrown in all directions and about 2500k's round trip over 5 days.

The Poker Run started by meeting in Gayndah on a Sunday night and then each day in turn to Tara, Roma, Blackall, Sapphire, finishing with a big Friday night at Kuttabull Pub (just north of Mackay). Someone reckoned there was around 500 bikes in total, some only did a couple of days here and there. Local clubs opened their grounds for camping, feeding and bar to make money....but the Ride itself was organised by Southern Cross to raise money for Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus.

Bugger all photos from the trip between Tara - Roma. It's not very far if you go the shortest route but we went via Miles and checked out the Historical Village there. It's not bad for a look if you're around that way. Just out of Miles took a detour with the DR and KLR and hit some dirt roads to the South of the Warrego Hwy. Didn't get the camera out but we went over to Roma Condamine Rd, then backtracked East, to the South of Wallumbilla, and came out at Jackson. Pulled up at Yuleba for the 650's to fill up and the BM to have a rest in the shade.

Roma Gun Club was the campsite for the night (all those black bits on the ground are clay pigeons)

Quite the mix of bikes! Looks like a GREAT time. Totally jealous here. It's the dead of winter here and the VStrom is sitting in the corner of the garage on a battery tender! :-( Thanks for sharing so we all can enjoy vicariously. Ride safe, all.
