No problem shipwrek I lurk everywhere on ADV I like to pretend my DR is a dirt bike sometimes and for short rides I do alright. The Algonquin 2 Day trail ride after the rain last year was pushing it (literally) a bit too far. I also enjoy twisty pavement rides so long as I don't have to go more than 120 for any length of time to keep up. My DR is a 2001 model baught new in 2002 but as you all know '96 to '12 are all the same until we get creative. You will have to head to the Ottawa area (Calabogie or Limerick forest) this summer for a ride to qualify. Otherwise it will be hard for me to try out your bike.
Cool, I'm in.I'm getting itchy to start taking stuff apart and bolting new stuff on I might be in need of some sage DR guru advice. I look forward to meeting/riding with some of you this spring/summer

Thanks emmbeedee. fixed. I have enough trouble with real names and faces and find remembering usernames a pain. I've noticed that real first names are often used in replies on ADV. Dose anyone here have a problem with that? I don't. In the meantime I will attempt to get the names and usernames associated with the right faces. I know most of you already but I think an introduction post of some sort from everyone is going to go a long way to helping sort out our little community. Does anyone have experience with the Shroai Li-iron battery or know of a cheaper source than Procycle? How about Dirt Bagz? http://www.dbzproducts.com/ They seem to offer the lightest side support brackets and saddle bags I've seen other than some questionable home made brackets. I would not use any soft saddle bags without a metal support to keep it away from the muffler. I also like how far forward they mount. If anyone needs an OEM muffler with a few scratches or a pair of OEM front fork springs make me an offer.

I'm a fairly recent convert to the DR. I didn't want to ride my BMW on the gravel anymore so I'd bought a KLX about 2 years ago. However, I didn't enjoy the bike all that much, I found it too light and prone to move around in a disconcerting way when it was deflected off rocks etc. All those years on the pavement mean I'm not used to a bike that moves. When I found out how easy it is to lower a DR a bit I tried EmmBeeDee's out for a couple of weekends and really enjoyed it. It was perfect, had enough power to keep up on the highway but was lighter than the BMW and easy to ride in the gravel. And designed to fall over with minimal damage. So I picked up the '01 from a village near Tremblant. Most of my farkle seems to be used stuff (mostly from Thumpididump) but I've put a Pro-cycle seat and one of the big IMS tanks. Comfort and range, all at a great price. I put almost 7000kms on it last year and had a great time doing it. If I had to have only one motorcycle it would be the DR. (I do love the BMW, but the DR is more versatile.)
