I have little to say

From what I know about the plating on our boxer pipes, BMW uses nickel, copper and chrome plating over stainless steel on these pipes.
As such, once they have been heated up several times, they do turn color. These photo examples of well polished pipes remind me of my GS pipes when it was new 12 years ago...same coloration as the pipes aged. Now, they no longer will take a shine like the pipes shown above due to the copper plate deteriorating beyond recovery. So, it's Jet Hot ceramic coating for me this winter. |

I used this stuff on my pipes right after my 600 mile service. Someone had grabbed my left pipe and the hand/finger print was coloring different than the rest of the pipe. This stuff will bring the pipes back almost to original finish however after a while the gold/brown comes back. I knew that, just wanted an even color. After a couple cycles, the spot vanished and my pipes are evenly colored.

Just stop thinking of the pipe color as "dirt" you have to polish away. Think of it as added beauty, like a slight sun tan. I keep my bike modestly clean but I loved the blue color of the pipes - Now after 65K miles and many long trips in the rain, they are more of a beige color. I don't intend to waste good riding time trying to scrub my way back to shiny metal.

The best combo I've found in keeping pipes that are wrought / non chromed is using mother's mag polish then following it up with simichrome. The final step is removing all of the polishing residue with a clean rag that has some rubing alcohol on it. In my opinion, you need to make a choice of keeping up with the shine so it isn't an all day project or just let it go. I have 9k on/off road miles on my GS and the pipes are as shiney as the day I bought it with exception of a really cool gold tint from the heat.
