Get a "WELCOME TO..." city, state, locality, park, anything sign.
This will go in alphabetical order.
This is going to be a low key game. Drama will be ignored.
If you get a particular letter and no one else gets the following one within 72 hours/3 days, you can get another one yourself.
For likely tricky ones like Q and X, if no one can come up with anything within, let's say, a week, we can skip it.

Edit 7/22/14: For Q, X and Z, if you can't find one that begins with those letters, something that contains those letters is fine. Again, if it sits more than a week or so, feel free to skip it and move on to the next one.
