How are you getting from here to the 'good parts'?

Nice!

I plan to do something like Southeastern PA to Toledo, then evading Downtown Chicago somehow. Eventually making my way to Madison and western Wisconsin. From there its either heading to Route 12 across MN and SD, or up to Route 2. I plan to take route 2 across Montana to St. Mary.

Hoping to do this in about 4-5 days. However, no reservations allows for me to listen to my body and mind rather than an itinerary. The sooner I get to Glacier NP the better!

I traveled through both locations last year, and Route 212 through the Beartooth Mountains was the highlight of my trip. My vote: Beartooth Mountains.

Beartooth. Heard it was recently re- paved. Should be awesome. Chief Joseph is right close by and should not be missed.

Hwy. 12 in southern Utah is also a MUST do. All of southern Utah is a must do.

Go up the gut of Michigan, across the Mackinac Bridge, then west to Duluth and 2 the whole way out! Lodging in western ND might be a problem with all the gas/oil workers though. Might be better than 3 years ago.
Traveling alone?
Also,,, ferry from Luddington MI to Manitowoc WI is possible. A late evening ride across the lake is nice.

I've thought about this route. It will add a couple hundred miles to the route westward, but its still an option. I'd like to see the Grasslands of Western ND, that's why my current route has me coming west through SD, then North through Western ND towards the Hi-Line.

Thanks for the suggestion. Im still considering that route. And yes, travelling alone.
