That's a good question that I cannot answer. Check with www.nps.gov All my friend's bike are street legal, KLR, GSA. We'll try to be at the entrance of 41 and Turner River Rd by 10:00am or meet around 9:00am at the gas station on Krome & 41.
Same for Holey lands as ATV's are not legal to ride there as of last week....Wondering what is next... It is the perfect training area for off roading bigger bikes.
atv's might not be allowed but are jeeps? a lot of places consider us Jeep's etc ause we have tags. if bikes can't go anymore it'll really suck, a riding buddy of mine told me it's a great spot.
US 27 at the Palm Beach / Broward county line. Coming from the south you need to make a small U turn on US 27 near the pumping station. Head west on a paved (2 miles) road that turns to gravel, coral dust 'road'. See http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=324746
I have been there once on my V Strom, but didn't know the name of the area. I look forward to doing it on my new KLR to have more fun this time.
Is there much back there besides dirt roads? I drove past the entrance on my way to Miami a couple of weeks ago and you really can't tell what is back there from the entrance.
The levees are what you ride on but if you like to muddy up the bike that can be done too. There is plenty of 'roads' to ride on out there. I used it to train a bit for Alaska and found that 'Haul' road was in better shape... YMMV
went to holey lands sat. 3 may 08 on a plated klx250 and a buddy on a non-plated yz250F (both trucked in). there is a looooong, straaaiiight, coral rock, extremely dusty road, and off to the north of the road near the parking are two very small areas of rocky trails. all in all it comes to maybe 20 minutes of trail riding. not hardly worth the trip, if trails are what you're looking for. on the south side of the dusty, dirt road are "endless" deeeep mud tracks. the fwc officers said it is 50 to 60 miles of mud, but mostly underwater now. so much for water restrictions, huh. the officers told us this as they were giving us both our warnings, one written (him) and one verbal (me). i was warned that i could ride the dirt road all i want with the plated bike, but cannot venture off of it without an orange flag on a whip. since fwc caught us on the road coming back from the little trails and didn't actually see me off road, they let me off with the verbal. my buddy got the written for no orange flag on the off road only bike. you should see the quadtards out there. they did have orange flags, but i didn't see a single helmet other than our own, much less a pair of riding boots, etc. every 3 and 4 wheeler there was carrying a cooler with open containers, and i know i saw 'em flicking lit cigarettes into the glades. they did have flags though!!! i probably wouldn't go back. i dig trail riding. the flatistan road got boring quickly. bottom line if you're licensed, stay on the dirt road - if you venture off, have a flag.
Perhaps some of you should come out to the BackPack benefit adventure next weekend... www.dixiedualsport.com for more details.... Florida ain't as bad as ya'll are makin it out to be...
This thread looks like an archive, not much activity. No Florida does not offer much in the off road category but we do have breakfast and lunch runs. I have grown too old for the dirt and swamps and off the road stuff, I limit my riding to paved roads, but I enjoy the ride reports and the photos. We are sometimes big on breakfast or lunch runs, I am near Fort Lauderdale, anyone wants to pound the asphalt and feed their face give me a PM
I still ride dirt almost every weekend, and if I'm not on the YZ I'm riding dual sport and occasionally riding street. Plenty of riding to be had here, just not of the quantity or quality of other areas. BTW - I'm an old fart.
Yeah you are... Looks like we're gonna need a snorkel the next time we ride. Thinking about terrorizing my neighborhood with the WR today, all this hunkering down shit is getting boring. Stupid fay isn't much more than a long rainstorm down this way. (so far....)
Yup, old fart, that's me. Believe it or not, I am supposed to pick up a spa in a couple hours. I've got to trailer it about 25 miles; not really worried about it. If I can find a pool store open I will pick up chemicals and get her running. Might sit in it on the back porch and watch it rain. I plan to take the DRZ out for a spin as it's already dirty, and may actually go surfing late this afternoon too. I am supposed to get off work at noon.
