Austrian Helly Frauwelner has stopped in the stage, not sure if mechanical or crash...

Results of the stage published, Guillaume holds on to the overall with Frenchman Dubois taking the stage today

    top 3 overall:

    Guillaume Martens :clap
    Martin Fontyn +16.16
    Norbert Dubois + 22.53

update on Thomas Schattat, he DNSed today. Bummer. Apparently he & his bike were in plain view when car #203 ran over his WR. (I wonder if it was a Petterhansel fanboy perfecting his "savoire faire" on the bikers. Asshole)

Sorry to hear of Stefano, he really was flying by a significant margin on the first two days, I hope it's nothing serious as well

From Facebook, apparently Guillaume is also called Guido :lol3

Dear friends of Guido, today was the fourth day of the Africa Race and Guido is doing a fantastic job till now. Just a short recap. After the first stage he was an amazing 5th, after the second he was 4th and after the third he was actually leading the race in the motorbike category! As the organisers described it in their press release:

" Discret mais efficace, le pilote KTM prend du coup la tête de l’épreuve " - Discrete but efficient the KTM pilot takes the lead of the race.
It has to be said that Stefano Turchi the Italian KTM driver that was leading the race had a terrible fall and broke three vertebraes and a collarbone and was flewn back to Italy today. But as the french say " le malheur des uns fait le bonheur des autres" and Guido took full advantage of it!

Today New Years Day on the fourth stage from OUED DRAA to WIRAT LARJAM over a total of 451 km he again surprised himself and everybody else and defended his lead succesfully. He rode a smart race, only letting the frenchman Norbert Dubois pass him and finished with 9.21 min. deficit as second. This way increasing his lead over second place in general classification Belgium Martin Fontyn with another 5 min. to 16.16 min.

See belows link to the website of the Sonangol Africa Race with the general classification after today. Cool thing is that you can actually follow Guido via satelitte if you click on the "Tracking GPS" link on the right of the screen. Just type in number 122 and see where he is and how fast he is going.

Tomorrows stage is the last one in Maroc over a total distance of 685 km, with 332 km special stages. After that they have a well deserved rest day and than head into Mauretania. Stay tuned and hope to keep you updated regularly from now on.

Sorry to hear of Stefano's injury, sounds nasty :huh

Now for the bad news, from the tracking it looks like Guido took a wrong turn this morning and is now 5th on the course, behind DUbois, Fontyn and 2 others so he will lose a bit of time today, maybe even the lead, but that could put him in a great position after tomorrow's rest day...

and Helly who had stopped yesterday for about 3 hours is ok, only a mechanical :clap

Unfortunately I don't see him in the live tracking today which may mean he couldn't fix his bike in time for this morning's start... who knows...

Breathe in the Rally Office in Austria - Helly, the tiger is doing well!

Maybe he even risked too much - we do not know exactly - but recently he has reported to the "control center" in Austria phone. Nothing happened to him! But on the dramatic hunting forward it is in a high-speed running, the broken wheel hub - the rear wheel had simply blocked. Fortunately, he did not come to overthrow!

He was now so well situated in the race. Helly showed once again that he is among the world leaders can compete at.
But the extraordinary race is far from over - Helly has often been taken out at the last second and the final victory.

Tonight, however, a die-hard night for the mechanics! The bike from Helly loses oil, smash the wheel needs to be replaced, and certainly has one or the other part on the bike maybe I want something else. Helly is currently with the helicopter on the way to the paddock. We are glad that our hero is doing well.

Probably to do with the nav equipment he's running, or better yet, his exhuast DB killers:

My mum and I did the 220km roadtrip back in just under 24hours, exhuasted thereafter!

Dad was doing well, until stage 3 when the 203 HUmmer ran over his ride. Radiators and nav tower screwed big time, had to be brought in with the sweep team. Didn't get to start yesterday, also not today :cry

Sorry to hear about your dad, will he be allowed to start after the rest day provided he gets the bike sorted?

Wow. Looks like a big navigation mix up is about to happen as they approach & then have to exit the riverbed...

Fontyn & Arnoult exited southwest long before everyone else, Guillaume stopped for a bit and is now heading southwest as well...

Damn this Iritrack is amazing, why don't they do this for the Dakar? Too many teams would be spying?

edit: Looks like Guillaume & Dubois both lost about 20-25 minutes from taking a wrong exit at the riverbed. Fontyn was first at the end of the Special,
Martin Rabenlehner arrived 3rd... should be a big shake up in the overall when they get the results in today...

edit2: Unless the first guys stopped at a refuelling, loks like they are off again into small dunes / camel grass area. No labels of the course on today's live tracking ...

It looks the guys with the old Hondas XLM (Classic) and Africa Twin (Raid), are mostly doing the same route, chapeau:eek1 Also because the AT guy starts everyday 1 hour or more later than the other bikes, so a lot of evening driving:evil

Martin is definitely Austrian, definitely not a chef, and I have no idea how the Chesterfields sponsorhip deal was struck... All I know is that he had the same livery in Serres, maybe a pal owns the place? 'Scuse me while I pop down to my local souvlaki proprietor, I have a cunning plan :lol3
