I'm planning on building my 1999 KTM 640E but the more I ride my new-to-me Gas Gas FSE 450, the more I'm thinking about taking that. . . Neither has nav equipment yet and I'll likely just go with the bar-mount setup for simplicity. And my 60CSX just took on too much water and has stopped responding so I'll be replacing that soon too. A pic of the Gas Gas with my better half showing her approval: She was the first to put the Gas Gas on the ground (note the shoulder):

At last. Great project. We are all waiting over here in Europe for a desert rally in the states that we can go to. Cool runnings to all. (Btw ..... Everyone has great names).

For the record being number has NOTHING to do with speed.... so with only 31 entries... what are the chances of picking our own race numbers?
There's also another new rally coming, possibly in early 2014. I didn't want to interfere with Baja Rally by saying anything before Scotty filled up his roster, but it looks like he's all set! We preran some of it on bikes a few weeks ago, and again in a Dakar car last week. Terrain and navigation should be quite different than Baja Rally and Mexican 1000 Rally. It's Diabolical! Please don't fill this thread with comments about this. I don't want to mess up this Baja Rally thread. I'll make an official thread in the coming weeks. I just wanted to let people know there is more good rally stuff to come, so don't go cheap with your nav equipment for Baja Rally!
Hi Art, It's been a while since we did routes together. It will be great to see you again. I know I sell nav gear, so take my opinion with a grain of salt... I *strongly* recommend an electric roadbook reader for two reasons: 1) I think rally is fun. I like to share it and have newcomers have a great first experience. Manual readers usually undermine that. They are such a pain in the a$$ that people end up turned off to the whole thing. YMMV. 2) It's simply not as safe. It's impossible to adjust a manual roadbook safely at any kind of (race pace) speed in rough terrain without compromising your control over the bike. Just my $0.02. Dave
I would listen to Mr Peckham. The amount of people working and time invested into creating challenging navigation and terrain on these stages cannot be emphasized enough. If you find yourself suddenly in the front of the field, you don't want to be dickin' around with one of those manual P'sOS. I know the requirements allow for a manual RB reader, but the conceived routes are only going to evolve toward more challenging and lengthy. SB
I'll be on my 690 with a pretty basic nav package I just got from Dave at RMS and some additional fuel... no frills here, I'm keeping it simple.
