fluteSONG and I headed out around 0730 Thursday morning. The first thing I did (after stopping for a biscuit) was miss the 220 bypass around Martinsville. As we rolled into town on 220 business I thought "What the hell, I'll just go this way, it's not a very big town". I might hold a new record for catching stoplights in that town; I'm not sure any of them were green. :bluduh

We went around Roanoke on the south side and took 311 across the mountain. Fantastic road if you've never been on it. Then we hit 92 and went straight on up to Marlinton. Not too many pics on the way up, but I stopped and got a shot of this "tunnel" we saw.

And of course you want to throw in some road construction for good measure.

On Friday Highbinder and Lady Draco took us on a tour. Since they lived in the area for many years, they know their way around quite well.

flutSONG went along on the trike, just for fun.

Mark O and Shelly O were along as well.

Sorry for the dark pictures, I'm pretty sure I fixed these before I uploaded them. Pretend you're wearing sunglasses. :brow

After a nice lunch in Parsons, Mark and Shelly headed back to Marlinton. We headed east on 72, then 32 to 33 to 28. Here's a few shots as we traveled along. Awesome.

Pointing out the farm where they used to live. At this point we have left 28 and are traveling south on the east side of the Bluegrass Valley, which is east of Marlinton.

Fantastic photos Laconic. I saw Lady Draco with Flutesong riding pillion, looks like her and Highbinder knew the best places. Rode down Bluegrass Valley with Twigsnapper on Saturday, breathtaking scenery!

Most of those were along the Virginia/West Virginia border.

Thanks, my efforts don't really do it justice.

I had been in the area several times before but never ridden through that particular stretch. We finished with a run accross 84 (IIRC). That was actually the best stretch of the day but we were going so fast I didn't get the camera out. The Valks don't go slow. :deal

Saturday was gsweave's lunch run to Rella's. We had a decent sized group.

    The Highland Scenic Hwy. (150).

I wonder how the road got its name...?

There's a loose nut on this bike.

Cuttle was there too, but she wouldn't let me take a picture (although I did get a good one of her nostrils). I'll spare you the pain. :D

We picked up a stray after lunch; this is gratitude for taking someone in...

When we got back down to 66 I broke off from the group to ride Back Mountain Rd.

I took the detour on Beverage Rd. and also did Cherry Lick Rd. out to 66 and back again.
