I had one of those! Same year,size,model. That bike was a blast. I rode it everywhere, to work, on the motocross track, the dez, school. I ran it so long that I had to resleave it after the last oversize piston then picked up another cylinder and went through all the overbores/resleave on it too. Great bike.

Great machines. Sold for a really long time (still?) in other parts of the world; MX especially.

Not much progress. Water in the carb and compression is very low. 60psi

yeahbutt, both are super easy fixes and won't cost more than a night on the town. Plus, after fixed it will be way mroe fun than a night on the town!

I didn't have any carb cleaner. Maybe a jet was clogged.

We pulled the muffler off and looked into the exhaust port. There were streaks down the side of the piston. We had a bright blue spark and still couldn't get it to fire using starter fluid. I emptied the float bowl, there was a lot of water in it. We're getting fuel to the bowl. Jenna checked that with the bowl drain. The slide's moving fine.

Jenna got the good 2-stroke oil that's made for oil-injection. Changed the oil in the sump. 20w50 dino juice motorcycle oil. I kicked it with the muffler off and they saw a flame come out. Even with the low compression I expected to at least get it to run badly but it didn't run at all.

Putting on the Sherlock hat: I'd say somebody older owned this bike and they gave it to a nephew or a son. That guy happened to be a stoner teenager that runs it into a creak and causes all kinds of mayhem in the top end. Worst case scenario: bore the cylinder for $75, get new pistons and rings for $50.

Anybody know if a TS250 top end will fit?

Nope. WORST case scenario is rusted crank roller bearings, conecting rod needle roller bearings on both ends. I hope it's NOT the case, but I've done a few sleds that were sunk and set. The transmission calls for 10-30 oil, not 20-50, JFWIW when you get it running.

Nice score, looks all there and in good shape.

jenna found a manual on-line that called for 700mm of 20w-40. It's GA, seemed better to go to the warm end of things and use 20w-50 rather than 10w-40.

I hear ya on those crank bearings. The oil was pitch black so it was old but it wasn't milky. I don't think there was any water in the bottom end. Jenna drained it into a pan then poured it into the oil catcher looking for shavings. She said it looked good. So far I haven't seen anything to think there's anything wrong with the bottom end.

If you're getting a flash out the exhaust, check the timing. I'd guess that thing has points, start with the gap, then static time it.

2 smoke compression is different than 4 stroke compression. The piston only starts compressing when it passes the last port, which maybe 2/3 of the way up the stroke, unlike a 4 stroke, which starts compressing when the valve closes.
60 PSI doesn't sound too low, but then it's been a while since I checked.

Once you get it running, use Silkoline light gear oil in the tranny. It treats me well in my trials bikes and I run it in the primary on my Norton. Far better than any dino oil for the gears and clutch.

Next time we're sitting around a campfire, remind me to tell you a story about launching old enduros into lakes.

It has a CDI Ignition. No idea how to check the timing on that thing. I have to imagine there's a trigger somewhere that goes to that magic box then on to the bang post. Jenna's going to get the holy book of Suzuki 2-strokes and hopefully it'll hold all the answers.

The kid said it ran 'til it didn't. I don't think he was screwing with the timing when it died. I don't see damage from a wreck so I'm looking for damage from neglect. Such as not filling up that silly oil tank under the seat

Tranny oil has nothing to do with crank bearings. If you inspect and measure the top end, and it is good, look at the crank shaft seals.

I'd say it's toast! Yeah, the piston is really scored, but I'm not sure what to do about the jug?

There is only a couple of places you can actually feel any of the scoring you see here. But otherwise, it is very smooth. So I don't know if I should just get it honed, or go 1 over?

Doesn't look like a rat chewed on it, but, I'm hoping the bottom end is ok?

So, I've located a few cylinder heads that the owners claim to be smooth. If there is just a tad of scoring on the head, does it need to be bored one over, or honed, or plug it and run it?! Obviously I'll be getting piston and rings. What say you oh 2-stroke geniuses. Oh, one more thing, I was only able to find synthetic 2-stroke injector oil. How bad is that? Do I have to run mineral?
