I've heard the model year is actually about six months after the production date. My LWB R75/5 was manufactured in December of '72, but it wasn't shipped to the states and sold until a while later. Thus, it's a '73 on the original title. The same is probably true of yours. It definitely appears to have the extra length welded onto the swingarm. Anyway, I don't know why I'm worrying about it. This is clearly a troll thread.
I'll be damned...it is a LWB. Went home and there is, in fact, a 2 inch section welded into the swing arm and it looks about the same size sitting next to the r90. Would you mind sending some pics and info on that seat, Merge87?
Hey Blaine, I got home and dug it out and realized it's actually a very early /6 seat. Even has the plate on the back saying it's from an R90 /6. I think that could come off though and if I remember right the LWB /5's still had very similar seats. (?) I'll link some pics here and if you're still interested send me a message. Note, bottom does have some rust and there's no hinges. I just set it on my bike for one photo so you could get an idea of the look. Either way, best of luck with the project! http://www.flickr.com/photos/75429318@N02/sets/72157631183459538/
Dang, start a list. Maybe you don't realize it but that is a fine looking seat. I'm third in line. Ah, but it's not worth all that much...
Well, you guys are starting to convince me to swap it out. Both my seats are in pretty good condition. I'm kinda new overall to airheads still, do a lot of people keep two seats? (I won two at the same time on ebay on accident so didn't didn't know what to do) Sorry to hijack your thread Blaine, definitely don't wanna steal your thunder
Just an extra seat? And you're worried? I have gas tanks, pistons & cylinders (none the right size for this bike), extra bags, forks, brake parts, engine parts. I think I could almost build a complete bike if I had the frame. And I do this just as a hobby. Some of these other guys on this list are professional junk collectors.
How convenient...I have a 74 r90 that needs a double seat Let's take the price to private message. I'd love to talk about it. Sorry other guys!
Let me third that-- it IS a LWB. My LWB R60/5 has a production date of 7/73 and it was a late /5 (end of /5 production was like Sept '73). And the mileage is probably 20K-- those (never-lubed) drive splines are minimally worn. Look at the brake pedal-- the wear on the diamond pattern is also a good wear indicator. New pipes and /6 muffs. I'd guess that it's just sat outside a lot. Shocks look pretty rough. I have a pair of old ones from mine that look good and work OK. Yours for the shipping-- PM me.
Also, regarding the build date/model year issue, remember that a new model year is available a few months before the change of the year.
That is true. Mine has /6 heads (different rocker arm support "buttons") and /6 steering head bearing adjuster locknut. Sometimes the model-year transition is gradual depending on the factory's parts inventory situation.
Nice score, Blaine!! Maybe you should host a "tech" day, so we can help you fiddle with this thing! When are you leaving for your trip?
That sounds like an awesome idea Jenna! I leave this sunday but when I get back, I'm getting elbow deep in some BMW and Bultaco. I need to pull the Bultacos jug and get the correct piston then we can get that going and tool around on it while cleaning up the r75. I'll let you guys know a date soon. Beer will be provided...and pizza, of course :)
Let the chaos begin! I'll install that after I get back from 2 week trip on the r90 in the rockies. (Life is good!) I'm putting in a moderately big order on Motobins for the rest of the items I need to get this sucker running after I return. Shooting for less than $2000 to get it safe and on the road, price including my trip to OH and the actual bike. Not bad? I'll make up for the lack of camera quality for quantity and frequency of pics on this...I hope.
