I was looking at some videos of the T800 and it seems as if these engines make a whirly sound on top of the regular engine noise.

Does anyone know where it comes from or what the explanation is?

Stock exhaust? It does sound kind of whirly. No biggie.

Once you loosen the surgical tubing on your arm and the triple reaches your brain everything will be right as rain.

Hmm no idea. It sounds more like a dental drill to me than "whirly." And why does it sound like a fax machine at the end of a ride?

It phones Triumph Galactic HQ to report metrics.

The most likely-sounding explanation I've heard (though I've not attempted to verify any of them) is that it's down to straight-cut gears between the crank and gearbox rather than the more normal bevelled ones.

It's genearally considered a feature and part of the character.

Thanks! Not necessarily complaining at all, just looking for a logical/mechanical explanation. I also thought that it was a feature, but I was just wondering where it came from.

And yes, it does sound more like a dental drill :D

Does anyone have a video of what the fax machine sound is? I've never heard it, but sounds interesting :lol3

My ancient phone crashes when I try to pull up YouTube, so I can't post a video. Basically, when you take the key out of the ignition after a ride, the bike beeps and then sounds like it's faxing something or like dial-up internet. It's quiet so maybe you'll miss it if you're wearing ear plugs. I heard all Triumphs make this sound.

About 30 seconds or so after shutdown, the idle stepper motor goes through a sequence of resetting its position. This is what you hear.

Fascinating. And here I thought it was just my head spinning from that sweet triple.

I'm going to admit that I really don't know what a stepper motor is, though I do know they make this sound and apparently they don't like to get dusty or dirty.

The stepper motor is what controls the idle speed. When its dusty/dirty it cant set to the correct position so wont idle properly.

A quick spray with a dry parts cleaner will sort it again.

Ive never had in issue with mine in 8000 miles
