Mine went missing after a day off-road in the Wayne National Forest (OH). BMW wants $23 for a replacement. Anyone have a spare laying around? Or willing to provide some suitable measurements so that I may find a substitute? Thx in advance!
Wow... That spring is kinda a bitch to get off I'm not sure how you lost it... I had to use my brake pliers .... My bike is 2009 F658GS the spring is actually two-springs and the coils are are interleaved/interwound... I've never seen another one like it ... bless you BMW <edit: see next append> But a good auto parts store may have something that will work ... beefy clutch arm return spring or maybe a drum brake spring or maybe http://www.mcmaster.com length from inside of the "hook" to inside of other hook is 5.25" when "relaxed" (off the bike) Outside diameter is ~0.60" wire diameter is ~0.082 then it has a piece of thin plastic/rubber tubing over it to keep it from banging around.... Since you'll be unlikely to find a "double" spring replacement ... I'd probably go with something that has the same outside diameter as stock, with same or heavier wire gauge and working length that was maybe a little shorter than 5.25"
The two spring arrangement is a safety feature. If one spring breaks the other will keep the sidestand retracted. Having a sidestand flopping around while riding is not so good. mike

Length is only one aspect if you want aftermarket. Don't forget tension, which is what makes it a bitch to remove. Fred
It would be a PITA to remove without my trusty pair of brake pliers ... wire diameter and free length was as close as I could come to tension without a trusty spring tester. One other key dimension ... the free length at the ends is about 7/8" long .... $23 is starting to sound "less bad"
I'm beginning to agree. But I'm still hopeful that there is an extra one laying about somewhere. Anyone?
