I was told to step up so here I am- stepping up...

This is a camping trip for us SC'ers to venture up into NC and enjoy some twisties and some mountain air.

Right now the Dates and location and just about everything else is pretty loosy-goosy...

I THINK its going to look like this- Friday June 24- stay at Table Rock, Sat Jun 25 stay at Iron Horse Sun Jun 26 stay at Iron Horse and go home?

    Table Rock details-

table rock only being 45 min closer

    Iron Horse details-

I don't know what your goals for the weekend are, but unless you're just trying to rack up miles there are a lot better roads in the area and better routes between each point listed. I certainly don't want to take over anyone's thread, but if you'd like a local's perspective let me know and I can suggest a few modifications.

A little invasion from south of the border eh??? Sounds like fun. I'll just throw this out. You all could stay at my cabins and get a 20% discount off the standard rate just for being inmates. My bunk cabins are just like camping without sleeping on the ground in a tent and with the discount, they're competitive with camping. I'm in the Nantahala Gorge about 10-15 minutes from Iron Horse. You can see them here.

If you're dual sporting it, I'll even be tempted to show you around if you want. Joe

I am very interested in this- it a=pears the cheapest of the cabins with a 20% discount could add up to just 10 bucks a person--- What do others think of this option??

I'm on a DS bike, I don't know how many others there will be, but I'd love to have you show us some stuff-- I guess we'll just have to wait to see who all will show up to determine that

+1 on some maps so we can see, I'd love a locals perspective!

I'd be glad to. Give me some more info and I'll make some suggestions and you can follow or disregard as you see fit. Also, JoeWannaB has been local much longer than I and can offer good advice too. BTW his cabins are in one of the most scenic gorges in the area - very nice place.

Start/stop time and location each day?
All pavement, or ratio of pavement/dirt you'd like?
Types of bikes likely to go? KLR/DR/640 crowd can enjoyably handle different dirt conditions than the big GS/990/Vstrom crowd if you're wanting any dirt/gravel roads included.
    Avg skill level of riders?
Any other locations/ points of interest that need to be included in the route?

I don't think I can answer that Question right now- as of yet I haven't heard from really any of the regulars as to expected attendance- I'll post on the SC ridetolunch thread to try and grab some people's attention-

Until I get a little more feedback we'll just have to hold back on answering those questions- I don't want to deter anyone from riding -

Kalonji and I will be there on street bikes (SV650 and Bandit). We can do light off-road. I would rate myself a 3/5 rider. Bikes will be street and adventure style bigger dual-sports. Off the top of my head, DR, KLR, and GS are represented.

The wheels thru time museum is very cool and worth a stop. However, i have been there so if there is no other interest, feel free to scratch it off possible stops.

I'd be in for the ride but won't be able to make it that weekend, so I voted the 17th or the 8th. I've got some route info and am actually headed that way this weekend. Just click on the larger image link to see the full route bits.

The Blue Ridge Parkway Loop - 168 miles mostly scenic and relaxed pace but some technical aspects. You could keep 276 but I would recommend taking a left on 215 North to the BRP.

there is no shortage of good roads for sure. if i'm not mistaken, hwy 215, although a fun road, road condition is far from good. it's ok, but that glued together rock stuff. if i'm thinking of the same road, it was hard to tell the solid road from the loose stuff...

A variation on the previously posted route:

    http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&sou...5.130017,-83.226242&spn=0.16061,0.362206&z=12

Adds miles but picks up some really nice roads. It didn't want to embed properly so I just posted the link. Anyone who'd like to fix it and embed feel free.

Just wanted to put out there the Parkway has a strictly enforced speed limit of 45mph. KG you might want to find out how understanding those guys are about speeding on there roads. I am sure there stories to tell. I have heard there are stories of tickets in the $800 range. But I am sure they are streaching the truth.
