Yes I've used the search ........... Has anyone bought one and used it in to navigate trails and backroads in western Canada, western US and Mexico? If you have experience I'd be happy to hear the good and bad. If you don't have personal experience using them, I really don't need to hear the "You gotta buy the Garmin XYZ-Magellan ABC-Zumo }!{ or else you're an idiot" speech.
By the look of things, it appears there doesn't seem to be many people who have used one of these ........ now do I feel like being a guinea pig?

I followed your links and suggest you look at/for something else. Reviews on Amazon aren't great for the most part. Maps are very expensive if available and on sd only.
Thanks ...... but the Canadian education system had taught me to read many years ago. I'm aware of the Amazon reviews, map prices and the SD cards. I'm also aware of many european trekkers who have used the system quite usefully throughout the UK and rest of Europe. But I'm looking for people who have used the system in North America and Mexico and are on Advrider. Apparently they are pretty thin on the ground.
So if you read those reviews from people who used it, they weren't enough to discourage you? The usual red flags with these not-so-mass produced units always pop up - limited distribution, no local support, limited use, etc. And with this one, I read on their website that the maps are only available from them, on SD cards, and are licensed to particular units, and that trip planning has to be done on the unit. I didn't need to read any further. That's enough to make me go somewhere else for a unit.
