Hello from St Pete, I would really like to hook up with you guys on your next DS ride if you don't mind another rider. I ride an airhead GS which is now 4sale on the Market Place, and just last week picked up an R1150GS which I'm dying to take out on hard pack roads. I've done Green Swamp off of 471 just north of Brooksville, liked it but was a bit too sandy on the trails I rode, I just don't know that area well enough. Would love to try Richloam or other areas mentioned. Anyway please keep me in mind on your next ride and let's try to grow a good group of DS riders for the St Pete/Clwr area.
Absolutely! I'll drop you a PM when a weekend ride is imminent! I'm in St. Pete, too, as is LarryGee....
Boxer; Keep in touch or keep checking here. Soon as the bullets stop flying we'll have a chance to do some more riding nearby. By that time, AG might have the new ride he's been lusting after....
I've been working on putting this together with some of the other riding groups I am involved with and it never dawned on me to talk about it here. Anyway, I've been working on a "bike" injury specific kind of class and have managed to find an EMT trainer to put it on for us. Details as follows: We have a date and an Instructor set for Saturday, June 2nd. Class will be about 3-4 hours. I will confirm the time but I am thinking 9am or so just so we don't have to get up at some un godly hour. As a reminder, the focus of the class will be on first aid related primarily to motorcycle injuries. While one should know CPR, this is NOT a CPR class. Upon completion of the class you will receive a certificate of accreditation. Some have asked me what your liability is, if you offer first aid and the outcome is not as good as the injured party expected it to be. I am not a lawyer and I am not giving legal advice but I would suggest you bone up on the Florida good samaritan doctrine. Anyway, at this point: I NEED A FIRM IN OR OUT. I need a headcount to figure out the physical logistics. At the moment, I am trying to find a mid county spot. Somewhere easy on/off to a major highway. If anyone knows of a place somewhere around the Feather Sound area that would accommodate 10-15 people, please let me know. While I am striving for mid county, if I can't find anything, it will wind up being in South St. Pete. PM me if you have any questions.
You 'da man, Larry! That's cool! I can check with the clubhouse at my apartment complex. It would be the ideal size and such, and its located centrally at 54th Avenue North and the 275 in St. Pete, very near Jim's Harley Davidson. That's only about 5 minutes south of the Feather Sound area. Drop me a line if you want me to ask about availability...
The clubhouse at my apartments is "out". They don't reserve it when they're open, and they're open on Saturdays, so...
Yessir, we don't live in such a bad place do we? From Whisky Joe's deck at the DDS dinner Wednesday night... <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/34068258@N02/7177225744/" title="TampaBay by ag_streak, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8025/7177225744_8216e36a8b_b.jpg" width="1024" height="768" alt="TampaBay"></a>
I had previously posted an announcement regarding a First Aid Class to be offered by a Certified EMT. The focus of the class was to be how to provide first aid in "motorcycle" types of injuries. The ONLY person to confirm at this point is: AG Streak (Paul) If you intended to attend, please let me know asap. You can search for the details in the Clearwater/Tampa section. Basics are; Saturday, June 2nd, 9 am. South St. Petersburg, - $25; Allot 3 hours.
I was thinking of heading up north for some camping on the GS, anyone else heading that direction this weekend? I am new to these forums, glad I found ADVrider, what a nice site. I am in the St. Pete area.
The First Aid Class Has To Be Postponed The instructor had a personal conflict and will not be available to hold the class on Saturday.... Drats.... Back to square 1. I will get a few new dates and try it again. I apologize for the inconvenience.
Welcome to the madness, GS Pilot! Riding this weekend is 'out' for me, but out of curiosity, where were you thinking of riding/camping?
Well I was hoping to do a little camping, but as the weekend gets closer and no one else has shown interest, looks like it will be a nice long ride.
Hey guys, I've been lurking for a while around here but I'm hoping to get more involved now that I'm about to be the proud owner of a 2007 V-Strom 650. I'd love to do some overnight/weekend camping trips so if anyone is interested, I'm in. Also, I'm interested in the first-aid class so I'll keep an eye on this thread and hopefully be able to participate.
^ ^ ^ Welcome, Sutto! It'll be many months before I'm willing to sleep outside with no A/C in Florida, but when the weather permits, I'd love to do some camping... that is, if LarryGee ever fulfills his part of our trade and gives me his tent!
I didn't know I had to deliver it! Heading back from GA today after doi ng some riding up in the twisties in Suches. I will personally deliver the aforementioned housing unit..this coming week.
