R1200GS ESA Disable?
I have a 2012 R1200GS that is equipped with ESA. I want to upgrade my suspension to Ohlins, but I don't really want to dish out the $$$ for the mechatronic setup. I was wondering is there a away to disable the ESA so I don't get a warning light or trouble light? I was thinking of getting the good old manual adjustment Ohlins front & rear shocks. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

You should be able to simply unplug the OEM suspension, seal up the connectors for safety and use other suspension.
When the ECU cannot read the OEM gear it does generate an error in the logs, but that's pretty much it. Shop will see when they connect to the bike and clear it...

I am pretty certain BMW changed the software so that the criteria for the warning light was for malfunctioning ESA instead of "missing" ESA. This seemed to have happened coincidently when they shifted to WP as the ESA shock manufacturer mid 2010. It would also appear the software has been updated in older units now so that when ESA is unplugged it will not generate a warning light, but will generate a soft fault in the data log for technician to see with diagnostics.
