My gs8 is going for its 10k service and a friend of mine says they charge you extra to take off the aftermarket bash plate has anyone experienced this ? About +- $60:eek1
They didn't charge me... and 60$? Comon, we know bmw is overpriced but I think that price is a legend.
My Motorrad Shop charged extra when you couldn't see the engine for accessories or if he had to wash it first. Dirty bike in for a valve check? Not a good idea. Seized or stripped farkle fasteners always get charged extra. I've seen a box of acc's given back to the customer cause he refused to reinstall them after spending an hour just to get them off for an otherwise simple job.
take them off your self or pay the BMW dealer $75/hr (or what ever ) to take them off so he can do his job. same thing with bringing in a dirty bike....you would not want dirt to get into your engine. Your dealer doesn't want it either. just common sense. If you don't clean it your self...don't bitch about paying for him to clean it.
They washed the bike for me on the first service (although I sent it in clean) and got the service manual wet which they put under the seat:huh If the bash plate is factory fitted then they don't charge but if its aftermarket they do, and then they wonder why people don't service their bikes there once they are out of warranty ......
$60 to remove a bash plate?!?! Five minute job at most, I say look for a new dealer. If they charge $60 for the bash plate removal what else are they going to burn you for.
What does your dealer charge an hour? I could easily see spending an hour fooling with a dirty beat up plate. If you think the dealer is charging to much do it yourself! GH
My gripe is they charge twice that of a normal bike shop for a service, and we have to service our bikes at BM or the warranty becomes void in SA. They are prepared take the plate or crash bars off if you purchased them from BM so what's the difference. I don't mind paying but if I'm forced to use BM for the services while the bike is under warranty, then I'm going to expect a bit of customer care. The dealer at KTM always gave me a good deal, I buy all my tire's etc from him because he gives good advice, and he's prices are competitive.
So if I understand you correctly customer care equals free labor? How do you think the guys doing the work get paid? Who pays the rent, light bill, taxes and workers insurance? You guys kill me! You buy a BMW and expect to keep it running for nothing. GH
