That's a bit rich for me. I'm sure they're good. But $350 for a product that houses 4 $15 LEDs plus some electronics? Yes, you can buy those LEDs for less than $15 a piece (here). Don't get me wrong, someone spent a bunch of time designing the circuitry and the housing to make all this work and then of course there's the manufacturing costs.

For now I'll stick with my candle-bright stock headlamp for the once-in-a-blue-moon time when I'm out after dark on the dirt bike. For others, I'm sure they'll see this as a good deal...

That is a bit rich, BUT....

1) If you're so smart, why aint you rich? Feel free to whip up some competition with those $15 LEDs, your CNC mill, and an injection molding machine. And an EE and board manufacturer.

2) Those $15 LEDs list 260lm output. 260 x 4 ≠ 3600.

Personally, I'll stick with the $100 imports sold elsewhere on this site, but I can't fault someone selling high-end cutting-edge products for asking an appropriate price.

Never claimed that (the smart bit). Not rich either - definitely one of the 99%

If you re-read my posting - I'll help you out here:

Claimed. The spec says they use the CREE XM-L LEDs and the referenced URL shows the highest output LEDs available from CREE is 280lm. So either there's other CREE LEDs that are of higher output being used (likely), or their numbers are sales-speak and not based on anything real-world.

I think we both basically agree: I wish I could justify that kind of dough for a great light! Sorry I sounded snarky.
That's almost twice the output of the cheap ones...

I still want to see a down-the-road pic! 3600lm is 3x the stock headlight on my KLR!

The pictures of our new squadron motorcycle light were taken on my personal 2008 RMZ450 and I must say I was absolutely shocked at how bright this light really is. Here is a link to a short video I made with the squadron light (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OsBgISkvyrc). Sorry about the quality. I was holding a flip hd camera in my left hand and steering with my right. Plus it was 10:00pm and I didn't want to upset by neighbors too much.

Got any photometric charts on this light? I'd be real interested in one to replace the stocker on my Husky 310. I'm just not convinced that the LED is equal to an 8" race light.

Lots of LED light manufacturers claim high lumen output but lumens don't tell the whole story. Lumens are only a measure of the total brightness of a lamp or emitter. They do not tell us anything about beam shape or distribution of the light out of the fixture. The light could be coming out the back of the fixture and the lumens would still count :eek1. And cameras tend to auto adjust to the available light level so I'm not convinced by a picture either. Pictures looking into a light are even worse (as lots of LED vendors seem to do). Call me skeptical. I would love to see light manufacturers include candlepower distribution curves or something along the lines of ANSI E9.1 so we could make some comparisons between fixtures of all types.

I know LEDs are getting better and better every day. I deal with lighting manufacturers in the architectural and entertainment business. They are all trying to develop a LED spotlight that has good throw distance and has a controlled beam pattern. Wash lights (wide flood pattern) are out there but not a good, usable working spot. So convince me that you have something that a company like Phillips has not yet achieved. I want to believe. And I would buy one if I was convinced.

PS, I have a lot more faith in BD than those no-name, big hype vendors.

PPS, this would be awesome with a PWM dimmer to run as a high/low setup.
