http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0lcnwdIYEfI I would highly recommend filling the can with water before drilling into it if gas has already been in it.
So he uses a valve that's not fuel rated for his air supply. Brilliant! And storing 15x5 gallons of flammables under a shelf, that's brilliant, too. I have one of those cans with the safety trigger. I've not had any trouble with it. I don't understand the complaints. Now the one I had that had a valve that was triggered by catching a nozzle protrusion on the edge of the filler opening and pushing, *that* was an abomination.
I have one of the metal six gallon snowmobile-gas cans from the 1970's I think. It's perfect. Requires no "manual" to operate, take a cap off, open a vent, pour, and either repeat or reverse the process. No funky little plastic doo dads. I would not part with that can for nuttin. Or some old underwear I have from back then too. Progress is futile! (I ride a KLR)
From my experiences... warm weather- gas can blows out like a big red basketball. Not good for the integrity of the can cold weather- gas can "implodes" like a crushed beer can. Not good for the integrity of the can short nozzle is useless, go ahead and try to put gas into a car without dumping it down the side. The vent switch breaks very easily
Those new style spouts can be a PITA - but using an tire valve stem on a gas can? What could possibly go wrong with that?
Well, I have some new can and do not have a problem pouring gas. But who knows... Have you read some of the comments? I am not sure if this is a goof or not...it should be. is this an inmate?
You can do it like the video (the hard way) or just take off the spout, push down the valve so it is exposed, take a pair of snips and cut off the one way valve. 15 seconds and it is "fixed".
I guessing the schrader valve is removed. As long as it's fuel resistant and has a cap, I don't see a problem with it.
Its terrible that people got burned. It is a very painful injury. BUT, GASOLINE can hold GASOLINE not only FLAMMABLE, it is also COMBUSTIBLE! GASOLINE is very DANGEROUS. The company actually got sued because the guy used the can full of GASOLINE to pour on a FIRE?
those new cans suck. they are way less safe than every other design of gas can.the spounts all leak obnoxiously. i pick up the vintage square metal 5 gallon jerry cans at flea markets/garage sales for $5-$10 each. they're good for storage, but not so good for transferring fuel into a tank. regular race jugs for pouring, but my favorite for pouring by far is the http://www.kartpartsdepot.com/product_p/sm-gmfj3.htm g-man 3 gallon.. fast, and fool proof. gonna order me one of these http://www.kartpartsdepot.com/product_p/sm-gmfj.htm - i do wish the cap had safety wire attached to them so you don't lose them.
If you're in California, you HAVE to have those shitty new style self-venting cans, which of course, don't actually vent. They fucking suck. I'll take my 5 gallon NATO style can thanks
If you try to cross into CA with one in your truck/car/etc, they will make you throw it away or leave it behind.
