(We're bias but here is our honest impression) Haven't found anything that eliminates it whatsoever, but it helps quite a bit. We were always skeptical about those claims with other free flowing filters but the first test up to Malibu hills in the tight and twisties was soooo much more pleasant to ride than with the stock set up. Pretty much never shifted out of third the whole way. Lugged the low gears better and "Came on" much smoother.Tight traffic under 25 mph was way less white knuckle as well. Admittedly, allot of it is simply getting a proper map made. But if your going to that extent, why not do it with a cost effective filter and get the extra 10.
I won't have time to dyno this until April probably. Sorry guys. Just got a job with a SX lights east coast team. If my local dyno guy gets moved/ up and running I can have him do it while I'm gone.
I stopped by CPR Fab and spoke with Chris Parker the other day. This looks like a well thought out, well built product. Not having a separate filter and cage will keep me from running it, but I imagine most will find it very functional. .
That comment got me to thinking. (dangerous thing) I like this overall design. Simple. I would consider it for my 950 when a kit becomes available. Now to think out loud. I wonder if something like 2 of the RFS filters could be installed. One over each Venturi. That would give the separate cage for cleaning and plenty of air filter surface area. The seller could sell the baseplates and a couple of RFS twinAir filters.
It could definitely be done, and even done with a single filter. Chris and I discussed alternate designs, but the mold is cast (literally) on this product so I don't see a separate cage coming in the near future. .
I did order a airfilter in the mean time not waiting for your results after all. But i'm even later with data my local tuner only did have time in May
for those following this new air box....TEMPTING!!!! Look what Craig has in store!! Hurry on the promo before it's gone http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=768096 Thanks Craig!
Locker43 and I are anxiously awaiting the new filter from CJ. We're entered in the Mexican 1000, riding our Super Enduro's and I can't think of a better mod than this new filter set up. With the addition of a filter skin, CJ's filter kit will be a game changer. I've never been a fan of the stock air box or panel filter Another excellent innovation from CJ!
The "Rottweiler" does indeed look like a serious and well made solution. This and the Uni pre-filter are gonna make a huge difference ! Q: is leaving the rest of the goodies exposed - which were formerly housed by the airbox itself not an issue ? Will they not be considerably more exposed to dirt, dust, etc... ? Thanks.
OK. I wanna see how you plan to install the Uni prefilter on this filter assembly. Inquiring minds want to know.
Perhaps my daftness is showing - (actually using my ever dwindling powers of observation, and just a little more thought reveals) this then negates the need/possibility for a pre-filter, as the snorkel wont fit, as it (the snorkel/pre-filter) connects to the original airbox frame. I'm concerned re exposing the under bits (that were previously "protected" via the airbox) to the elements - should I be ?
I guess every other dirt bike with an exposed carb shares your concern Maybe that's a revenue source for one of the after market people to develop..... "Protect that carb from dirt and grime with the patented carb cover" operators are standing by.... but wait....
OK, guess what really confuses me, is that the frickin stock filter doesnt even cover the air intakes ! It covers everything else ! Hence I thought there was something down there that needed covering... :huh
The air filter does cover the air intakes. The air passes into the air box chamber via the snorkel (or prefilter) to the cavity around the carb bodies. It then passes upward thru the filter into the clean side air chamber. The side with the Venturis you can see. That top cover is the intake side of the filter. BTW- I think there is a flow diagram in your owner or shop manual. I recall seeing it once. I hope that helped some. As far as CV concerns I dunno. I'll have to see. I'm presently running a BMC filter & prefilter. I'm not seeing any issues. I plan to go back up to stock mains to start with and see how things run.
Well, the CV carb on my 640 ADV did just fine with a regular old EXC style filter as I recall, so not sure what all the fuss is about? Should we start discussing oil now
