Hi I wonder if I can load in my 990 ADV the standard map without these items to return to a lower consumption performance, using tuneECU. The goal is to increase mileage, Any suggestions?
I just started using Tune ECU. There is a box located on the left side to turn off O2, SAI=(SAS) and more. So, I say yes.. Not sure how it would perform.. Smitty
Heya dude, great meeting you in Medellin the other day and a nice scoot you have too Totally doable with tune ECU, you can put your factory map back in providing you saved it, if you didn't I am sure someone on here will have it. A few seem to have found the map runs rich through the cruising band so you might be able to look at leaning it through there, there are plenty who have played and come up with good map on here.
Joe Andi! Nice meeting you and Helen too. In tuneECU website is the standard map. David in R2R loaded an aftermarket slip ons MAP, so she is drinking gas happily. Hope you return to Medellin and meet again. If you want to do another trip through Colombia, from Bogotá maybe to Ibagué, or somewhere else, maybe a little trip in ferry, I can recommend you a route to investigate if you want...
You want O2 sensors ON for fuel mileage. Turning them on , in the ack map will increase mileage (they are off by default). Turning them off in the stock map will reduce mileage (they are on by default). Many find the happy medium to be the ack map with O2 turned on, there is a huge thread about it in this forum, take the time to read it. SAS has nothing to do with fuel mileage.
The ackra map is the worst for biffing in fuel when it is not needed so if that what David put in then yeap it will drink. As SS said have a good read of the thread, the o2's off will help with snatchy throttle coupled with other addition like throttle cam but turning them off will only use minimally more fuel, the main area that the ackra map seem overly rich is in the mid range at crusing so you are unnecessarily using gas. We are heading south now mate, in El Espinal tonight hitting the desert tomorrow and into Neiva then down to San Augustin to play tourist for a coupla days
SAS is one of the things people here complain a lot of. So I was thinking that without SAS the bike would ride better Thanks, anything else I should do to increase mileage without damaging the engine?
The SAS inducts air into your headers to superheat your catalytic converters but what this does to aftermarket pipes is burn the packing out so bad news really, it does not make a difference to how your bike runs other than it taxes your airbox which does not need taxing. Best thing to make it run better is o2's off, G400 throttle cam, open filter and pipes and a tuneecu map to suit, no quick fixes anywhere. If you have the factory airbox you can open up the two side triangles to allow more air and add a DNA or similar filter if you haven't already got one. These are our triangles with a kitchen scrubby as a prefilter, cheap and easy to replace What setup do you currently have Quick question, we are looking to go over to Ibague from El Espinal, worth going?, heading down to Neiva after that so local suggestions welcomed Cheers dude
No, they only have a smoothing effect on the throttle, on my 990 SMR I ended up putting them back in as the low action throttle was better with them in. Ditch them if you want top end accel, some people have had trouble with the stepper motors but if they are working fine leave the second flies in place.
I was there when you made it and installed, pretty cool cheapy filter!!! Summing up, just turn on the O2 sensor and do 15 min idle
Gezz ya were too .... make sure you don't get as old as me Yeah cheapy Kiwis know how ta roll the $$$ out, specially on a RTW trip. O2's won't make a huge difference to overall economy though but yeap everything adds up if you want optimal mileage, never a free lunch with everything, unfortunately if you want HP you pay for that, if you want economy you will give back some HP. You won't need to do the 15 min idle with the o2's but do it anyway so you have a fresh start and you know where you are at. Pick a cold day, early morning is best. BTW, what problem do you have that you wonna cure? (apart from personal ones )
Before David changed the map, she was doing 60 km per gallon. I want that mileage back because I don't feel the horsepower increasing with the money xpense increase
Ok, see where you are going with that, yeap factory map or modded tune ecu map and give her a little more air.
Youp Andi! Who has the metal grid you used to make your ultra high tech side air intakes? I want to do it myself. Good ride, fellas!
Sorry mate I patented that at the desk .. .didn't you see that ? Fee of $10 grand cash So, seriously, go see Andres, he has the sheet 1000 mm x 900 mm with our two triangles cut out of the corner, we gave him the rest of the sheet and they have it there, he should give you a chunk you need for free. Spend the 1850 mil at exito and buy the three pack quality scrubbies and go for it. Or you can just leave the covers off if you are not precleaned at the front or not doing really grubby stuff What air filter do you have installed?
Please send me a PM with your bank account to transfer the 10K$, I hope you are referring to 10.000 colombian pesos , and you thought your bank is a thief, you didn´t know me yet!
I was an entire virgin about tuning ECUs. The most complicated electronic configuration I made was a relay for my horn... Pretty easy to do it, with tuneECU. Thanks a lot everyone!
In this instance we are willing to overlook the patent fee sum as an investment in your enjoyment ... very giving kiwis Nice to hear you are done, any more questions fire away. In Neiva "The oven" .. fook it is hot here, down to San Augustin on Sunday
