I have tried Tourance, Distanza, and Battlewing on my 05 GS. I just didn't get the mileage out of the Distanza that I would have liked. The Battlewing and Tourance perform the same for me but the Battlewings are substantially cheaper.

They are competent asphalt tires but they don't last very long (for me at least).

I've run a couple of sets an wore them out at about 6k miles. Probably due to a relatively shallow initial tread depth.

If you change your own tires Battlewings and Trail Attacks yield about the same cost per mile. They are the 2 best bang/buck that I've run. Battlewings are cheaper but don't last quite as long as the Conti's. So your cost/mile will be lower with the Conti's if you pay to have them changed.

Tourance cost/mile is a little higher than either but they are great tires.

Shinko 705 radials could be the lowest cost/mile for a decent tire, but I'm waiting for more extensive field testing before I try them.

Anakees are good tires too. But the aren't cheap and the front shows signs of cupping earlier than most other tires (at least for me).

huge lean angle --on a big bike-r1200gs-

    and getting some great mileage---

    I'll mount another set--

Conti Trail Attacks because they grip well on road. Crap on sand and mud. Long wearing.

I've been through two sets of Anakee II's. Great tires, handle and wear well. On gravel the front tire (or me) tends to walk around quite a bit. Switched to a knobby front (TKC80) and that works great but fast highway traveling tends to vibrate. Just ordered the Anakee III for the front and plan on trying the same for the rear.

K60 12-15 thousand mile on the rear with some great off road capabilities. To me beats a shinko 705 that only goes 5k just in cost alone because it would take two or three tires worth to keep up with the k60. Shinko $100 for the rear vs k60 $200 not to mention you gotta pay some one or take the time two swap them.

Since this thread seems to be continuing even though some tried to shut it down by suggesting a search instead I want to ask if anyone has tried the Dunlop TR91. They look interesting.

i rode a set through the summer. an absolute blast on paved roads, the footpegs scrape long before the tire looses traction. very good traction in wet conditions as well. on dirt they are kinda meh but thats to be expected.

i got about 8000km out of the rear and front would have been good for another 2-3000 but then i switched back to the K60 ... Winter is coming :D

Sorry, shut it down was the wrong way to phrase it, I was referring to a couple of earlier posts suggesting to post in threads already discussing tires, that would have in effect killed this thread if everyone had taken that advise.

Anyway, thanks for the input guyfawkes.

I am following this thread as I am going to pull my tires this winter. I am running Tourance right now and they are cupped and seem to make a lot of noise with only 5k on them.

At 57 years old, I don't mind being called a newb. I'm new here on the site but I've been riding since the mid 70s and can't even figure out how many 100s of thousand miles have passed under the two wheels of my bikes over the years. But he!! Yea, call me a newb all you want, lol.
