Great stuff here! You're very talented. I didn't see this asked anywhere, and forgive me if it has, but how are you using a remote for these shots? You don't look to be aiming anything in the cameras direction, and there's strong sunlight in a lot of those pictures and I at least have always had a ton of trouble with remotes in those situations.

Hi Thanatos,

when I'm riding alone (which I did on 98% on this journey) I'm not using a remote but a Canon TC 80n3.



It allows you to have a self-timer with a countdown of 99hrs, interval shots f.e. (1pic/sec), long exposure and to set the amount of frames (max 99) you like to shoot. You can of course combine the settings.

Some pictures are however created a more natural way: With a human remote control. They are sometimes called kktos, ladigodiva ... Unfortunately, most of the time they're not available when they are needed. And they offer more functions than required: Talk to you, talk to someone else, want to eat, drink, pause ...

Great writing, photos and videos! The clip where you rig the side stand with the strap was so funny! "How do I get the camera?" = Oh, the problems of being a one-man producer/director/cameraman!! But as you say, the remote does not wish to stop for the bathroom or eat at a different resto than the one you find most appealing! Wonderful report and worth every second of waiting!

But not to be misunderstood: I was only refering to the additional functions of a human remote control because in terms of photography I may be a pain. An ordinary rc won't get bored, distracted or even hungry when I'm trying to get a good shot...
As riding companions they're just great!

For Tuscany, try reading the "Riding in Tuscany" thread. Towards the end there is also a report about a trip to Sardinia. The author is away right now, so it will be a while before we can expect this excellent report to be continued.

As for Dirk, it's been a while since he posted. You may be better served with a PM to him. Also, for trip planning purposes some people find the Horizons Unlimited site helpful....although for ride reports ADVrider totally rules sans doubt.

I'm afraid the guy is busy as hell.... doing trips and taking shots
