I have searched the threads and checked the index but still have questions. I have a new airbox that will be going into my 99 640 LC4 e. the current one has the whole top cut off. It sounds like the agreed mod is just to put in the airbox screen with the snorkel left in place. i can't find the screen, i can't even find a picture of one. i have seen ones like this.

but that doesn't look like what would fit mine. sorry to beat a dead horse here but i just couldn't find what i was looking for.
as it is right now it has an idle jet @ 52.5 (i think), main at 150, sxc exhaust, and lives at 7500 ft. rides down to 5000 and up to 12000. what would be the best way to go mostly regarding the air box.
    thanks

does that replace 4, 14 or both? or do you just cut through them?

It replaces 14 & 4... there is a gap between 14 and 2 for air to flow thru. 4 is just a "peel and stick" gasket for 14.
Some SuperMoto guys don't run 2 (outer cover)... for us off-roady types, it kinda functions as a spash guard, lean back, knee gripper, kinda thingy.

    purdy creep,
so when you install the screen it seals on the box, and the #2 side cover is spaced off of it and that is where the extra air gets in? the light is beginning to turn on here sorry for the slowness.

'Cause it says KTM on the side and it's way bitchener than Creep's Ho-Made unit. :D

But really, it's just easier than all the hand work if you're lazy (like some of us)

I can help here; on the stock airbox air enters thru the snorkel only. The 'racing' side airbox cover (KTM part or creepers far superior custom piece :evil) opens up the side of the airbox to airflow, which on the stock airbox is not open at'all.

The #2 sidecover has the space there to allow airflow to reach your newly opened side of the airbox.

The UNI (mini?) air filters you can buy over the counter. I am not sure if this is why creeper used them but PASSMORE said that they flow well but also can help keep water out a bit longer than the screen used on the KTM part.

    EDIT: passy's setup

I have a tendency to run thru some deep water crossings (I do live in the Pacific North Wet after all) on occasion, that's the reason for the UNI pop-ins.
I oil them a bit with filter oil and they act as a "first defense"... sort of. I still get some water in the airbox, but maybe not as much as the KTM square screen vent arrangement.
I've made several side covers with screen as well... I just feel a bit more secure in the deep water with the UNIs.

If you decide to make your own… a cheap way to do it is with a piece of PCB (printed circuit board)… easy to cut with scissors if you use the thin stuff.
If you want a gasket, you can make one out of neoprene or closed cell foam.
Make the opening high up on the cover (like the KTM one) and no more than about six square inches of opening. Screen door screen, or fancy stainless screen works fine and can be sandwiched between the cover and the glued down foam gasket.
Sounds complicated but only maybe 5 bucks in materials and half an hour of time. You use the inner cover (14) as a pattern.
