So, Being a KLR owner, I am "frugal". And nobody has been giving away tall windshields for the KLR. Well, I've tried some bits and parts from other bikes, universal remnants, and just never been satisfied with the airflow and turbulence at highway speeds. Then, Ginslung bought a KTM 950, which came with 3 windshields. He had one he wanted to give away! I give you, the "KTR" mod!!! Sorry for the crappy cell phone pic. More will follow. Bottom line? ZERO head buffeting at 75 and 80 mph! And, the folding part at top not only allows air to be directed at your chest on hot days, but also serves as a flip up sun visor! Two cuts of the pointy parts on the bottom, and 4 screws in the pre-existing shield holes, and it's mounted! Easy Peasy! Dave
i like that mod. I have been looking to do something myself to stop the buffeting when on the highway. Bought a new Shoei Hornet DS Sonora and it helped a ton but still need a higher windscreen.
Could not be easier to mount. Now, the very precise among us would drill matching holes in the fairing, and use rubber spacer mounts with ny-lock nuts. Me, 4 drywall screws! The nice part is the shield is flexible, yet thick. It's not brittle like lexan at a similar thickness. Still get wind on the shoulders, but chest and head are clean clean air. The round holes I may fill in with JB Weld, then paint the lower half, but the air gets inbetween the fairing and the shield, and solves the vacuum issue. Plus it's cool to ride, since it feels like a 9fiddy!
looks cool, but the very first thing that popped into my head was klan hood with those two holes lookin like eye holes. but, function beats appearance, so I cant really judge much.
You put a 1986 Chevy 4 wheel drive truck transfer case bash plate on your KLR as a windscreen? As long as it does what you want it to do. I like it!
L.E.D. lights in the holes would be interesting. It's ugly as hell and functional, perfect for a KLR.
Hello UncleDirt. I guess we are on to something here as I ended up with a similarly shaped shield from the pieces left of a broken tall windscreen. It does work and there is no buffeting. A little bit of paint to give it the ADV "look". Here is my version...
This! I just might do that! I was thinking of getting some of those Wal-Mart stick on chrome "vents" for the front fender of a car, and mounting them over the eyeball holes too. And yeah Beeper, I thought of Lights for those holes. It would be perfect since it would function and yet repel people of good taste at the same time!! Rainmaster. I'm sorry dood, that's just ugly. I'm kidding, I mean look, I threw a bash plate on mine!! Your's actually looks like it's supposed too. Hey.................that Chevy bash plate thing would look totally MadMax wouldn't it? Anyway, it works. I am so glad to get rid of that buffeting since most of my riding is at speed on the slab.

"WTF?, that thing is Fugly" My wife refuses to ride on it. :huh But like you said , is works really well to get rid of the buffeting. I really like the "Mad Max" theme. Please post some more pictures when you go the next level...
I had a welding helmet that looked like that. It was my fave. I loved that helmet. Yours has more protection from the wind though.
depending on the diameter of the holes, you might be able to get some vent caps from the outfit that makes new windsheilds for old vetter fairings. They come with a 2 vent hole model with push out vent caps. looks like ceebaily or slipstream has the windshields, you can order the vent caps separately. although, mad max would look cooler.
