bought a C3 last year. Very nice hat, very quiet, amazing field of vision. Haven't been able to wear it for more than an hour at a time, due to the insane pressure on my forehead. Well known problem, seems unacceptable for a $600 helmet. So many heads, so much pain. Oddly, I've had BMW System helmets, loved them. Still ride with my System 5, even though its liner is getting worn. I carry it as a backup for when the C3 gets too painful to bear. On the advice of the friendly service rep at Schuberth NA, I bought a C3 Pro liner from Revzilla. It came today, I installed it, and have been wearing the helmet around the house for the past 3 hours. Still fits very snug, but no increasingly unbearable pain on my forehead. I'm cautiously optimistic that I've cured the mark of Schuberth.
Like you, I had that same forehead pressure and headaches with my C3. I think it was here on ADV where I read that you can take a spoon to the pad and dent it in ever so slightly. I did that and it worked like a charm. Then there was the problem with me looking like Alfalfa after taking the helmet off.. Hair parted down the middle and looking like a total dweeb! ha ha. I bought the new liner too... problem solved. C3 is now the most comfortable helmet I've ever worn.
interesting...im haveing the same issue with the C3 ... i dont get headaches but when wearing the helmet for a longer period i get a serious dent in my forehead right in the middle of the head where the liner sits ... how does the C3 pro liner fit in there ? is it attached at the same points as the regular C3 liner ?
the spoon trick worked like a charm - you just depress it enough to allow the liner to go in a bit - made a world of difference. I spoke to the Rep at the Biltmore Rally - annoyed that I changed the protection - like give me a break - depressing the styrofoam 1/8" is going to make a diff... he did tell me the C2 helmet liner is a perfect fit and takes away the pain everybody complains about. As my liner is about dead after 3 yrs, I'm going to buy a new one.
i allready did that...used a mortar instead of a spoon tough...just wasnt good enough in the end. liner for C2 might be hard to come by, C3 pro on the other hand should be readily available.
I bought the new and improved liner from Revzilla and I can now wear the C3 for about 4 hours before I feel any real pressure. I recently went on a five hour ride with no problems so I think the helmet might be improving with use. One hour was my limit before I had to escape my C3 head torture device with the original liner.
Some lids just won't ever fit properly. I mistakenly bought an Arai Viper GT to replace my Quantum (of which I've had two) and it is nowhere near as comfortable. I had to do the spoon trick which helped, but basically my head shape needs a Quantum- Arai says the Viper is for 'long oval' heads- guess mine is round (and empty) If a lid is unwearable after an hour bite the bullet and try something different.
the difference in the liners is the existence in the C3 liner of a sewn tab right over the point of the forehead, which is not there in the C3 Pro. The sewn tab has 3 areas of stitching which may possibly press on and irritate the your forehead.
Bought my C3 2 yrs ago and also endured "mark of Schuberth" torturing for way too long, before speaking w rep who advised to remove and handwash all liners (cheek pads as well) - idea that it would loosen things up a bit, which it did to a small degree (go figure) but repeated spooning the foam made most difference. Still leaves the mark after all-day rides, just not as painful. Now w 40,000 miles on it, I'll try C3 PRO as suggested. Thanks
Use a beer bottle or wine bottle to remove the "mark." Takes some time to flatten out the front of the helmet. Cut off that damn flap too....if you're cold, put some duct tape in there in the winter. I've cut it and never looked back. Never an issue no matter the weather...
The mark of Schuberth is why my son now rocks a C3. Pain on my noggin to the point of nausea. Still, to me, the best helmet out there, which is why I bought a size larger. BTW, Schuberth gave me an S2 liner, but not really much of an improvement.
I used a 20 lb bag of lead shot Placed helmet on a towel fixed both the mark! And tight cheek pads three day process but well worth the time
