I think were are going to see them get a lot cheaper very soon.

At $6,000 the ride and quality of this is a hell of a surprise.

Some thoughts and pics from my ride today

In all honesty my first thought is" Shit for that money I'll buy one,2nd thought wait for the full power version, next thing, ah maybe I'll wait and see how they go" in terms of longevity anyway.
Thats how the Japanese started in all reality.
I dont think it's good looking but I figured out a long time ago you cant see em when your riding them.

Yep, I reckon that is going to be the real test - how they hold up to sustained use and what the support is like when there is a problem.

I don't see retained value when it comes time to sell being that much of an issue - with such a low starting price you could almost afford to throw it away in 5 years or so and still end up with cheap overall motocycling.

Just think if they make an adventure version it would make the wee-strom look expensive.....

Well, the Hyosungs were supposed to be the 250s and 650s that shut down the Jap bike industry, and while you do see a few around, they haven't actually caused too many ripples - probably mostly because they are "ordinary" - not as an insult, but a statement of fact - they are unexceptional in almost every respect.

But SOTD, thanks for taking the trouble to write this - very illuminating and surely a sign of things to come: a colleague has just come back from China and he says it is a shattering, humiliating experience to go there and realise that they work harder, faster, better, produce more, for less, with less - and while they're quite polite about it, in reality they don't actually give a shit about exporting to a microscopically small market like ours.
Now I need to know: where in Melbourne is that dirt road? We're borrowing the NTX for a bit tomorrow and I really don't want to ride it in the city & 'burbs only!

Hey Précis,

The dirt roads were on the northern side of Melton. Take the first exit off the western hwy, turn right and head towards the little hills.

May be they are our brand loyalty and the "common knowledge" that other brands dont last. something like a KTM where the common thought is that they dont last and prone to trouble?
Might be the Chinese badge, or the subpar safety of the great-wall cars taking its toll out of the bikes. dont know what it is but the moment you associate "Made in china" to it there is a tendency to steer clear.
And then the same person will walk with an iphone and ipad. go figure.

Went to the Honda dealer today to look at the 1200 X and the NC700SA. Both 700 s already sold and the 1200 sold as well. The 700 Integra scooter will be out shortly.

Hope to get a ride on a 700 to see what the motor is like.

There is a possibility the 700X model may come to Australia at the end of this year.
