This must be a great event! Did you see all those Oakland MC folks wearing ORANGE!
So Nate, Passmore: who has the db meter? 96?
I wonder if the conditions will still be like Parkfield?

If it's like the pictures the guys posted from last year, we will have lots of water crossings. I sure hope it's not as wet as Parkfield. that was a slipery mess.

Thanks Passy, I don't know if my muffler in present state will pass the test. I have a restrictor to put in which is supposed to bring it down a couple of db's.

I sent in the money this morning, so hope you will throw down bread crumbs or wait at the obvious intersections! Where are you planning on staying? I haven't been up there in about 15 years, so it'll all be new to me! Being an older fella, I'd rather sleep in a bed, but....

Just signed my son and I up. Will be on the XR650R and the 450EXC. Probably will do the easy splits since my son is new to the dirt.

For those not too sure about this ride, the easy splits are little more than dirt roads. This year there will probably be more than the usual amount of mud and snow will probably block the higher passes at the end of the second day's ride, but there are always bailout options.

Most years the easy split can be handled by someone with no dirt experience at all. Last year the easy split had to make one rather challenging water crossing (maybe 14-16" deep at the max and 30-40 feet across), but there were lots of people around to help out. I expect that the same thing will apply this year given all the rain we've had. On the second day, there was one slimy, rutted but relatively short hill a few miles outside of Ft. Bragg on the Ft. Bragg-Sherwood Road, but you could avoid it by taking a long pavement bypass that cut out the first 40% of the dirt and dropped you off in Laytonville where you rejoined the group. Other than that, it was a piece of cake.

The harder splits have really only been intermediate-advanced intermediate level trails. Some steep hills. Can be done on the big bikes, but challenging. If you know what you're doing, no problem. We took GS Adventures and 950 Adventures on the hard splits two years ago without too much drama.

Not too sure about how they will handle things this year given the increasing amount of scrutiny from the USFS, but for those worried about sound measurements, they went through the motions but were pretty relaxed about it last year. They had the equipment out, but seemed to be doing it pretty much "by ear". Didn't hear of too many folks getting rejected and saw lots of aftermarket pipes.

In case you're looking for a motel close to Stonyford, I spend a fair amount of time up in that neck of the woods doing track days at Thunderhill. I think the best motel in the general area is the Amerihost in Willows. Just off I5. Probably 25-30 minute drive to Stonyford from Willows. Next best is probably the Best Western Pheasant Inn, right next door. Nothing in Stonyford or anywhere closer that I know of.

In Ft. Bragg there are lots of decent motels. AAA web site has them listed and rated.

I'm dying to run this this year, but its my little girls first birthday weekend. Would not miss that for anything.

Was getting real excited deciding between the HP2 or the KTM until my lovely told me her parents were flying in and the party was moved to the weekend.

H2O pumper, I'm planning on bringing the sound meter to Passy's event in April. You should plan on attending.
