Listings such as this always beg the question w/ me: does the seller know his product or not?

As you've pointed out in these threads Wirewrkr, some people see "bmw" & price at $1 million! There was a rusted, rotted clutch assembly listed for over one year, it may be still, that even had a visible water line. Now, even if you don't know anything at all about mechanicals, how can such an item not clearly be junk?!

Last week there was an item listed wherein the seller mentioned to ask about any other parts a buyer may want from a /7 he's breaking. So I sent an inquiry about the jugs.
The reply included zero information or pics just: " Yes I have them, how much are you willing to pay?"

    That speaks volumes to me.

Maybe it's one of them CDi magnetoses? I'll bet that those magnets are realllly strong. At $360, I'd expect it to be tested for spark, though. :rofl

    What a dilbert.

That is a (the?) problem with Ebay-- too many sellers have a fleamarket mentality. Put junk up for sale and leave it up til the right fool comes along.

If only it was a magneto - the RTW types would love a legit magneto, no coils etc.

How'd he come up with the .74 cents? eBay has jumped the shark for sure.

It looks innocent. Like somebody pulling your leg, making a joke or not knowing what they are doing. A waste of time? Maybe. I think it is sinister. I think there are deeper motives at work and this is somebody, probably more than one, trying to drive the prices up. Junk dealers have amassed huge warehouses of used Airhead parts. They can wait but they can also play this game. And it will drive the price up. Whole bikes and parts. Over time the price will naturally go up but the dealers would like to help it along and increase prices more.

It costs them nothing to do this on Ebay. They don't have to make a sale.

Dealers, dealers, dealers. It is getting harder to find small individual people parting out a personal bike or two. And what if you want to sell something? You would like to make a little money also on your efforts. We all need it. I can't really complain too much. I won't pay that price for that part or buy the GS bike for over 13 grand but I want the high end of what it's worth when I sell and I want under the market value when I buy.

I recently had to buy square valve covers for my /6 because the value of peanut covers is now through the roof. 6 or 7 years ago a peanut cover could be had for $25. They are usually 3 times that today.

Have you watched the prices of /2 bikes for these last 15 years? The same thing is going to happen to our Airheads. Maybe there are enough bikes that the prices won't be so bad for awhile but eventually it will hurt. It is what happens to a bike that gets "restored". It is worth too much money to ride on the street.

I think I won't be around when it gets too expensive to ride my bike but who knows.

The weird thing with him, this has been listed at the same silly price several times.
If you look at his other stuff it's much more reasonable.
Maybe it's just a case of "but honey, I'm trying to sell the BMW parts, but no one wants them!"
    Who knows.

Holy &%$#@, yes to both. With a screen name like "roofis27", whatcha expect? This is, afer all, "ta'internets". The item is knowlingly misrepresented at an outrageous price, it needs to be reported as fraudelent. ;)

This yahoo is on Portland. Any idea which Inmate he is?

And the guy with the R80 engine has an attitude problem. Big time. Aurora CO, anyone know who this is?

Bad thing about this &#@% is that it drives decent vendors away as well as driving prices up.

    Fooey.

sounds like he's on more than just that :lol3

But definitely - as if used parts need to be capitalized in that fashion. There's no real reason that a used, incorrectly labeled magneto should be $350, let alone $750, especially when other replacements undercut that; unfortunately there's no real way to report someone on eBay for being ridiculous, but it seems like something that the FTC should frown on. This cat's high as a kite.

shit, $750 would be a more suited price for that $4800 "for-parts" engine.
