Pretty sure the headlight is the same as an XR400... in which case just about any bike shop should be able to get an aftermarket one through Motorcycle Specialties.... Should just bolt straight in. Cheers Scotty
Betta Bikes sells a headlight replacement that takes a QH lamp with the same mounting points as stock. Google servicehonda ( there in the USofA ) there parts are 1/3 of the cost of OEM bits here.
Thanks for the tip Digga, Found a lamp at an Auto parts supplier here in Melb similar to those in the link. Cut out the OEM item from a spare housing and with a lot of fiddling managed to get it to fit and glued it in with SIKAFLEX. Spacing is an issue as it protrudes a lot further forward than the OEM and is not a nice fit in the original headlight surround/number plate assembly. That said it takes halogen 35W bulbs so is a vast improvement. JM
I really don't want too i have had this bike over 8 years and had more great rides then i can say on it, it has never let me down only major issue was snapping the R/h footpeg off landing a table top jump @ green park connondale, but i have another XR650R modded with crf suspension and may other mods as well as a crf450r I am also planning to do a project / custom build on a crf450x with CR500 engine and get adr approved very soon
What are servicehonda like to deal with if chasing 650r parts?,see they got a oz distributer so do they make you deal with them?.Nice s/hand bikes on the s/honda website.
I never have dealt with ServiceHonda, There pretty good i am told by a few guys. There prices are on the money.

OK so several pages ago there was alot of air filter talk, and differing thoughts, I have for some time run k&n filters, Recently I ordered a uni filter foam filter it turned up today and i must say i'm impressed with it's quality and design, the back of the filter has a nice ridge of sealing foam to fit into the recess in the air box, now all i need to decide is weather to use to genuine back fire screen or the twin air high flow screen? any thoughts???
Before the engine died. I ran a twinair foam filter with the stock backfire screen. When I got the tm40 I ordered a Unfilter foam filter too. It came with as aluminium frame that seems like it would hold the filter in place while also allowing higher air flow that the stock backfire screen. My stock screen was quite dirty from the oil from the filter, do you guys clean out when you clean the filter? Also, speaking of ordered. This is where the new rod goes
Have been using the unifilter with Maxima filter oil since I bought the XRR, always seals up really well. Perfect actually. Have tried a bit of grease in the box to see if there's any fine dust getting through but it's always clean. Think I paid $29.00 for each filter
I had a UNI filter for awhile, while drying out the filter the wind blow the filter onto the ground, the dog found it good to chew I think it is XR'sOnly that sell a Hi Flow back fire screen, it just has less and larger holes than the stock back fire screen. There was some discussion on filters years ago on the Yahoo site, a few guys had there bikes catch on fire when using filters with the non stock style back fire screen in the bike. While trying to restart the bike after it had been dropped. I found this to be true while using the uni filter. So i went back to the stock back fire screen. Personally i believe the stock back fire screen does not impede air flow. all of the above IMHO
So after writing to Honda USA about the Johnny Campbell works rear calliper from 2005, this is what they replied with: "Thank you for your letter about the 2005 XR650R Team A Baja 1000 motorcycle. We always appreciate hearing from our customers. This type of information on our race model motorcycle is not available to the general public. We are sure you can understand the confidential nature of such materials." Even 7yrs later they still keep such info confidential - wow it must have been some miracle calliper!! :)
Ok got an email back fRom globetrotting about the rear rack he will give 20 percent off so it's a fair deal... I need to know who wanted one ...either the subframe with the rear rack or subframe only or. Subframe and rear rack with pannier bag supports ....I'm getting subframe with rear rack sent from my phone with my pointy finger Tapatalk 2
