For those who are thinking about fitting a single disk

    It's simple

Grab some small bearings from a bearing supplier to space the disk, and the caliper (from the calliper carrier)

    2 bearings X 5mm wide M8 axle

    6 bearings X 5mm wide M6 axle

6 X 5mm longer KTM bolts (they trigger the speedo signal {hall effect}and must be steel)

    [IMG][/IMG]

    [IMG][/IMG]

You will also have to relocate your speedo drive

    [IMG][/IMG]

you will have to remove 1.5mm from the inside of the calliper carrier. I used an angle grinder with a flap disk. A bit of trial and error

    This side

But now for the best bit____

On the box which no one reads:eek1

    [IMG][/IMG]

is advice relating to the master cylinder, so I got ..........a

    [IMG][/IMG]

off the Super enduro ($180AU) which works PERFECT with this 4 pot caliper.

You can do anything with this combination...... Simply Perfect. :clap

If you are worried about twisting forks then don't do it!

Thanks to those who went before me, and gave advice...... Flanny, Gregore, Ricardo, Stephen and evilkymevil and many more.........

    Nice one Rory.

Why do you have to worry about twisting forks?

As far as I can tell the forks are the same as the ones I had on my 640SM.

It had 320mm disc and 4 piston caliper and never twisted anything

    Maybe I should rephrase that.

"If you think that going to a single disk will cause the forks to twist then don't do it."

The last time this was discussed it turned into a safety argument. Ended the very good idea's that were flowing freely.:lol3

Why bearings instead of plain spacers? Were they just convenient?

It was all I could find with that accuracy. you could have an engineering shop make them, but it would cost a fortune. They work well as there are 2 surfaces to sit on, and the load is spread, Life can be a bit tough down here in the antipodes, as there are so many things you cannot get, that are freely available in Europe and the States. If we can get it it will be at a Rip-off price.

We do a lot of shopping on the Internet:lol3

I got the Motomaster from motostrano http://www.motostrano.com/cosubrsy.html

$550 on special:clap Less than a week to get here.

This brake is much stronger than the standard twin disks. There is excellent feedback through the SE master cylinder. I have had it on for a month, but have not been on the dirt yet.

    On ya Rory,

You have seen the light the lightening of 3 kg off the front end will transform the way you can now powerslide out of turns without the front pushing. On dirt that is.
Not to mention the feel and control at the lever.
Now you just need a set of 17" wheels to go with that set up to really put it to the test .
I have the motomaster off my kx450 supermoto i am yet to try on my 17" rims.
I'm using the se master cylinder with the standed caliper for serious dirt work, and i'm extremely happy with the power and feel.
I'm keen to get feedback on how the motomaster feels on the dirt.
I know on my kx450 the front brake lacks feel on the dirt sections and too much power. This bike only weighs 100 kg though so i suspect it will feel different to the 950.
My plan was to swap the standard caliper, brake line and se master cylinder
when i'm swapping from standard wheels to 17" wheels, and put on my motomaster ,line and a suitable master cylinder to obtain the best brakes for road riding and the occasional track day.
But Rory you say that that your set up using the se master cylinder is stronger than the twin disc set up.
Maybe thats all i need is to just use the motomaster for both wheels.

I followed you after you picked up your SE pump I picked up mine, and ran a single floating(990) disk for a few weeks, but was disappointed with its lack of power for an emergency stop. I'm sure it would work well on the dirt.

We need some testing of the SE pump and Motomaster caliper on the dirt. I tried emergency stopping in the wet and was most impressed.

I have a new set of scorpions to ware out so I have time to consider what to do with my original rims. I have a set of spare wheels with a 21 X 1.85 front and a 18 X 3.5 rear with excellent German dual sport tires. The rear, pictured here is a 140 X18.

Whats the motivation behind having a single disc?

I think that that sums it up quit well.

    It's all-right it's my thread:lol3

I did some fiberglass work on my bike. Sort of "make the things that you cannot buy."
Here's another shot from the front

Ok. I forgot about the calipers when considering the weight. It had been suggested that single disk gives you more options when it comes to buying hubs - and that the gentler braking in the dirt is better.

As for the tanks, looks good.
Post some pics of your tanks on the "Show us your pics" thread.

Three kg is a lot, indeed. :nod

Way to go, Rory. What would we do without you? :thumb

    I really like this.

So, now the bracket comes with the brake -- Gregor had to make his own.

could you mount up two of the 320's? or is the caliper only set up for one side (that is a brake line port on one end)

Wow, two 320s would be cool.
