Well I just got into the dual sporting world. The best advise that I can give, is to get a gps and and city nag and topo and stay in touch with this site. There a alot of really nice people and tons of advice here and places to ride. One of the first places I want to ride to is Oark Cafe in Oark, AR. I have the garmin 60csx with the city navgite, with it you can zoom and route you on almost all gravel/dirt roads, any road with a name.
I'd actually like to ride this Saturday, weather permitting. I don't think I'm up to the type of distance like the Rush ride... Brock Creek would be fine...Or the Ross property, or there's also a place I mentioned last weekend in the very North part of the Ouachita N.F. It's less challenging than Brock by far...more of a good fire road / scenery ride. But quite a bit closer for those in LR/NLR. I'm game Let the majority rule!
Im definitely down to ride. I just took alot of crap off my bike. Will do much better in the dirt now. Probably going to change my gearing tomorrow, going to go a lot lower, get rid of the tall highway gearing i have now. Wish I had some more aggressive tires.... But money is tight right now. Will have to stay with what i got. Id love to do some riding this weekend. Id really like to check out ross prop or brock. Havent been to either one, but have heard the riding at both places are really good.
Riding at Brock Creek and Ross is really good, but lots of it is tight single track. I might ride Ross a little this weekend. Some of it is a real challenge on a truly street legal 650. The annual bike rally thing is in Hot Springs this weekend, so traffic will be at a near standstill in town while the rugged individuals make their presence known with 130db pipes. I might visit the vintage bike show across from the Arlington if weather is nice, but not via Central Ave. Avoid town if you can. Waiting on weather to post up a time/place for a dual purpose ride at Ross. I'm not kidding about it being a challenge in places on a 650 dual purpose bike.
ive heard ross was tough. Ive got some stuff im waiting to come in the mail saturday. Sunday maybe better for me to ride. IDK. Its not that big of a deal that i be at the house saturday when the ups guy comes, id just like to be.
Saturday's out for me...gotta catch up on the honeydoos I didn't handle last Saturday. Maybe Sunday for me. It'd have to be O.N.F.
Awesome man. So weather permitting Sunday at Brock? Where do you guys want to meet. I'll shoot mike and danny a pm and see what they are doing this weekend. Weather looks iffy. 50% chance of rain for Sunday. But they have been known to be wrong before haha.
Looks like I should be able to ride Brock Sunday as well. I'll probably trailer in the CRF and bring my nephew and the XR250R. I'll keep an eye on this thread.
I'm out for the weekend, Toasted my rear on the rush ride, Order new from bike bandit, most likely won't be in till mid next week. Wish now i had got one local, But i thought i would try to save a little jack. I will let hardcore mike know about the ride he may want to go.
swmototires has always had my tires here in less than a week. Sometimes 3 days. You have to order 2 to get free shipping. I've only bought 2 tires locally this year. If the weather is nice enough, I'll ride the L to Brock Sunday.
Be safe at Brock, it can sure hurt ya! I won't ride there on the single track lone for the most part.
Rode 130 miles at Ross last weekend, 50 miles on a DR650, the rest on a WR450. There are plenty of easy two-track routes that are not difficult. The trails are not marked, and their are no maps so bring your gps.
