This forum is full of great threads on off-road/driving/fog LED lights, but pretty much all of them are too bright for all-the-time on-road use. I'm still planning on installing a couple of "blasters" for off-road, but I also want a couple of lights to create that "triangle" of light upfront to increase visibility. Any ideas on 3-4 W LED lights that would mount nicely low on the forks (either by the fender bolt or the front reflector stud)? EBay and such are full of lights in that range power-wise, but pretty much all of them are surface through-hole mount - and angle brackets are kind of ugly :)
I have a set of Clearwater "Glendas". Had them for 4 years with 0 problems. These units are pricey but my 4 year total cost is less than my PIAA 1100's on my other bike which blows a bulb @ $40.00 each @ least once a riding season.
I have a standard auxiliary lamp housing with 55w 3000k HIDs installed. Bright yellow, can't miss them, but they aren't blinding.
I've got many pairs of lights I don't use because they suck. Hella micro DE lamps for conspicuity. They're projector so, they offer a brightly illuminated hemisphere when viewed from above the cutoff. The pattern is as perfect a fog lamp as you will find anywhere. Not the smallest since they are a projector lamp. Easily upgraded to HID as well with any kit.
If what you are looking for is "viability" check out Photon Blasters". I have them and my riding buddy says they are very visable.
lights which are good for shining the down the road is generally not good as visibility lights; Visibility lights angle should be greater than 45 degree horizontal and shine up and down as well - good driving light is generally pencil beam in light characteristics - excatly the opposite what is needed..
