Totally agree. Cutting along brand lines will do major harm to the charm. Time to brood on other ways to make that division. Some suggestions: -region where thumper was purchased (or is used, ...) F.e. eastern/western hemisphere, though this would cut through good'ol england, sorry chaps. -first owner or second hand Another easy, clearcut line whithout connotations, that does not separate one brand or group of brands from the others. Surely other and better suited ways can be found. The general aim however would be to keep thumpers of all kind represented in each of the subfora for that essential interaction.
how about moving threads after they get over xx hits.... make a spot for high mileage thumper threads that stay active. something like the KLR mods thread is endless ... the 2 DR ones too, there are more.... some have over 50k replies. those could be easy targets. AND/OR remove threads that go quiet for xx weeks and put them in a thumper archive that way the threads that only have a relatively "normal" life can come & go as they do now. I like looking at problems, ideas, & opinions on bikes of all types
....and Generic/General for general inquiries/comparisons, etc. No need to make it overly complicated. But what do I know-I can't even keep the alligators or the damned kids outta my yard! Dirty

Maybe you could start a new sub forum and call it something original, like say Thumper talk or something like that
That's horrible. If it had to be done, I'd like a second thumper forum just like this one. Don't move anything, just lock this one and whatever is here stays here. New threads have to go to Thumpers II, and then Thumpers III down the road. Would be too simple, and I would certainly browse through two identical thumper pages. There would be 7 times as many threads entitled "what dual sport bike should I buy" and "what oil and tires are best for it" in all the different subforums if it were divided.
Whatever you do, please give the 2 strokes their own thread so that people will quit calling them thumpers.
What about threads like the 250 touring thread? At the very least, you would need a General thread. Problem there is that some of the folks who could provide valuable input would be tied up in their particular brand subforum.
I believe that three sub-forums under Thumpers would work well. One option is to split by origin, Asian, European and a general Thumpers forum where threads are not bike specific. Another option is to split by size, small (up to 250cc), medium (up to 500) and then the big boys. Two strokes deserve their own, exactly as it stands right now. M.
Personally, I don't like the idea of splitting by brand or exotic/ mainstream. Sure, there are lots of brand specific questions, but is brand specific tech really the reason we come to ADV rider? Personally, I go to KTM talk or Thumpertalk for that. IMO, following the same basic format of those pages will diminish the uniquness of ADVrider...which seems to be it's focus on how all brands compare and can be applied to various adventures. A repeating theme I have noticed on Thumpers is that there are several schools of thought on what constitutes an "Adventure", and they usually steer the bike criteria and the discussion. For example, is it a 90/10 Thumper, 50/50, or 80/20 (off road/ road)? My suggestion would be to split the forum into those three categories. That way, we still get to contrast the various brands against one another, and any bike may show up in any forum. But, the sub-forum will automatically communicates our intended use for the bike and steer the feedback/ conversation. Good luck.
I hope that a split into two would work, Euro / Japanese. I can also see the logic of putting KTM and BMW thumpers with their multi-bretheren, but I doubt that the current users of those forums would agree. My least favorite option would be every brand in a different bucket.
leave it alone!... there are other, more specific forums to search more specific things, the cool thing here is seeing what all the crazy stuff all the different people are doing.... yamaha forks on BMW's, for example.... this ain't gonna work as a specific place.....alotta the wrenches here are challenged by changing their oil, 'fer chrissakes....changing this is not following the course of nature, grasshopper.....
The only person who likes change is a baby in a wet diaper. So I understand the "leave it alone!!" comments. But it's already done with twin-cylinder bikes and only a random drunk should get confused where to go to. We have "Beasts" for "all other multi cylinder bikes" There's GSpot for BMW twins, and OC for KTM twins. Now we'll just do same with single cylinder bikes. "Thumpers" for all other singles and generic thumper stuff. "GSpot / Singles" for BMW thumpers, and "OC / Singles" for KTM thumpers. Works fine for twins, should work for thumpers too. I'm suggesting just the structure, not the specific naming of two new sub-forums. Mikko
