Don't know what the hell is going on with Lonestar's reply either! Anyway...

    Quote from Lonestar:

"I have had the 24K and the 30K service done and no issues. I left the chip in place during the shop service (BMW shop).

    Chip? What chip?

Interesting that the BMW shop computer did not pick up that the air temp sensor was off by 10, 20 or 20 degrees C.
    I wonder if they looked?

I stopped for service in Chico once and they had me disconnect the Booster Plug before they would connect the BMW diagnostic tool. Said it would throw an error. Your Ice Air should too I would think.

Like Lonestar says, the IICE Air does not cause a diagnostic error.

It's not an issue for dealer service. If they give you any grief have them contact me. :D

I'm sure the answers are in the 209 pages of this thread, but my head hurts from trying to find the answers :D
I'm just trying to figure out which one is right for my '12 R1200 GS/A (IICE Air, IICE Cool, and IICE Smooth) or what combination for a full exhaust.
Again, sorry if it has been answered before. I even looked for a FAQ. Thanks!

Naaah, there's a lot of stuff to look over, ET. I get lost in here myself.

As Wallowa says, for now there's the IICE Air. And it will work just fine on your GS!

So, from what I gather it works like this (in laymans terms):
The device alters the intake air thermistor reading to a higher temp by a preset amount. This causes the ECU to increase fuel delivery to account for higher "ambient" temps. The reason we need to do this is because the stock EFI system can't make a large enough change based on the O2 readings within normal conditions because the allowable span for changes is too narrow for what is necessary. Your device alters conditions to get the EFI program close enough to be able to make minor adjustments within its allowable range.
Did I butcher that well enough? :lol2 or is that kind of the idea?

We do this to make the engine run better due to emissions restraints.

I would have figired the AC motors would get enriched as the temp goes up, as that usually yields a cooler charge. I'm more of a water cooled guy, though. The modern boxer is a new thing for me.
Anyway, I'm just trying to understand what it does and how far it goes before I pop one on. Is there any adaptation left in the EFI system or is it a straight % across the board? Do the intake and ambient pressure sensors (if there) still function and affect the injector duration as originally intended? Is it trade secret?
I'm just a gearhead and this stuff fascinates me:norton. I just like to understand things before I go plugging things into a vehicle. I spent hours researching what if's on the PCIII and PCV. Sorry if this all sounds familiar. There are a ton of pages to go through in this thread.

Heh heh, I'm with you. Though I'm not sure these things will support both coffee AND beer!

<BR>They only support 20oz per 'fill'. So I'm pretty sure there's room for either coffee or beer, but not both. You getting this joke yet?
