I was fine until the last 3, 700 miles a day is definitely too much on an f800gs

Thanks Cali, it was dark so I got to see the city lights. It seemed like it went on forever. I was glad to see Indiana.

Rockinrog this is a trip I want to do also. I think Sept.would be the best time because of tourists/traffic being low.How were the temp.for riding @ different elavations that time of year? I have been across Canada in 1986 on my first BMW 1981 R100RT down the west coast to LosAngeles then east through AZ / CO / back to Toronto. I am from Nova Scotia, Canada.Have you been there yet? I highly recommend the east coast of Canada including Nfld.

John, the temps varied from the 90s to 40s. I dressed in layers so that I could add/remove as necessary. For instance when I was up on Beartooth it was in the 40s, but when I came down out of the mountains it was in the 80s in the valley. I have not ridden the bike in Canada yet. I have read about the trans lab highway and must say that interest me. I have been to New Brunswick hunting thats about it. That 86 ride sounds like a good one.

Hey rockinrog. Nice report. What's the speed limit like on beartooth? Its in my plan for this summer and just saw to allow 2 hours to go 68 miles???

I don't remember the speed limit being low, but trust me you won't want to rush through it. Take your time, stop and take it all in and take pics when you can.

Yea thats going to be pushing it. My advice is if there is any chance to take more time do it. There is just so much to see and you never know if you will make it back again....I am a bad one to talk though because I need to slow down and take stuff in more when I am on trips as well.

Pay attention to what he says!!!
My 1st trip was 2 weeks, 2nd time was 3 weeks. And it wasn't enough!
8 days means 2,,, maybe 3 days there. Which is a decent amount of time, IF you just do Yellowstone. But there is SOOOOO much more in that vicinity.... Beartooth, Grand Tetons, Rushmore, Custer Battlefield, Crazy Horse Monument, Devils Tower. It's ALL on the way to/from Yellowstone. And to be THAT close and not go because of not enough time is a shame.
If you do it,,,, it WILL be memorable. But take more time if you can.

It is definitely is beautiful. I returned last year with my father to do a car tour to show him some of things I had seen. I could easily spend a lot more time, except during the winter:eek1

I've been reading your thread on the BRP as I'm planning to ride it in June. I saw this report in your signature section and thought I would share my route from last summer (8/16). Very similar to your route!

I covered 6,500 miles over 13 days. It was epic and must be done again, next time I'll include Banff.
